Lifestyle
Out and about
The neighbouring towns of Bothwell and Uddingston are primarily residential locations, and that ensures an impressive level of family-friendly facilities and amenities for people of all ages. Uddingston's high street features various household-name chains and brands, while smaller family-owned shops can be found both here and along the road in Bothwell. A short drive away, Tannochside's eponymous retail park is one of the biggest of its kind anywhere in Scotland, with other shopping hubs in nearby Hamilton and East Kilbride.
Sport has always been a cornerstone of life in Uddingston, and the town has its own tennis, bowling, rugby, football and cricket grounds. Sporting prowess is encouraged at an early age in Uddingston's acclaimed high school, which offers state-of-the-art facilities for over 1,100 pupils in a bespoke new £21 million complex. Travelling slightly further afield, nearby Glasgow combines one of Britain's best retail destinations with cuisine from around the world, an internationally renowned live music scene, and numerous acclaimed museums and parks in every corner of the city. Indeed, Uddingston gives you all the benefits of city life with none of the drawbacks.
Resident life
Uddingston is peppered with desirable residential pockets, and The Avenue is a fine example of the phenomenon.
Set along the opulent Castle Avenue, this discreetly situated development comprises three four-storey apartment blocks, spread out across a sizeable site bounded by trees.
Considerable privacy is assured by the low-rise surroundings, and extensive parking has been incorporated into the development. However, with Uddingston's train station a short walk away, and regular bus services travelling up nearby Main Street, it'll be tempting to leave the car at home.

Places of interest
Like neighbouring Bothwell, Uddingston is part of South Lanarkshire, a county perhaps most synonymous with its titular market town. The historic burgh of Lanark stands at the far end of a meandering A-road lined with chocolate-box villages and garden centres, while the World Heritage centre of New Lanark is in close proximity. However, despite its areas of natural beauty, South Lanarkshire is a well-populated county, and this is reflected in the presence of East Kilbride just five minutes away from Uddingston.
Scotland's largest town offers innumerable attractions, from a nine-screen cinema and bustling ice rink through to six interconnected shopping malls, a country park and an extensive golfing complex beside the eternally popular Stewartfield loch.
History is all around you in South Lanarkshire, with the historic ruin of Bothwell Castle on the doorstep, and Hamilton's legendary mausoleum also worth a visit - the latter stands imposingly within the landscaped Palace Grounds. Hamilton also has another country park and a popular racecourse within its borders, encapsulating the endless list of entertainments on Uddingston's doorstep.

Transport links
Uddingston's transport links are second to none, and it is to the town's eternal credit that three different motorways pass within close proximity of its borders. The M73 heads north to Stirling, the M74 is one of Scotland's two main arteries with England, and the M8 affords access to Edinburgh as well as travelling to the heart of Glasgow - as does the newly extended M74. As if that wasn't enough of a blessing, Uddingston also has a direct connection into central Glasgow along the old A74 dual carriageway, through the revitalised east end and past key sites for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games.
Thanks to its geographical position between Glasgow and Edinburgh, it is possible to catch a train directly to Scotland's two main cities from Uddingston's eponymous station.
The town's Main Street is also a key bus route, with various services travelling into the centre of Glasgow and beyond, courtesy of Uddingston's peerless roads network.
