Local Information

Leisure Facilities

The abundance of green space, both in Newhall and Harlow as a whole, lends itself to leisure opportunities, including walking, cycling and horse riding. Harlow also boasts a number of parks, play areas for youngsters, and for older children, a state-of-the-art skate park.

One of the first new towns designed after World War II, Harlow itself benefits from an abundance of open space in its design, including the 164-acre Town Park, which boasts a number of facilities and features. These include an adventure playground, paddling pool, open farm and skate park for children; water, walled and sensory gardens; a bandstand, with live music during the summer and a café.

The town is also home to several nature reserves where guided walks and events take place regularly, including Parndon Wood, 50 acres of ancient woodland with a conservation centre and observation hides for visitors.

In addition to the wellbeing and sporting opportunities presented by such community spaces, Harlow Leisurezone, seven minutes drive from Fusion, offers a range of activities and facilities, including swimming pools, tennis courts, gym, squash courts, sports hall and exercise studios. Local sports clubs cover cricket, gymnastics, tennis, rugby, running, bowls and football, while the Harlow Centre for Outdoor Learning runs coaching in canoeing, climbing, archery, abseiling and mountain boarding.

For a more relaxed approach to leisure, Harlow Playhouse is one of the region’s leading theatres and stages a variety of drama, comedy and music productions throughout the year. The Gibberd Gallery, at Harlow Civic Centre, showcases a permanent exhibition of British watercolours, as well as shows and talks by local and national artists, and the Gibberd Garden at Marsh Lane is home to a collection of more than 80 sculptures.

Local Shopping

Harlow benefits from many shops local to its various districts and a modern central shopping zone, which includes the Harvey Centre, the Water Gardens and a pedestrianised precinct (the first in the country when built). All boast a selection of high-street brands and independent retailers, not to mention popular food outlets and cafés. Planned expansion of The Harvey Centre will see the addition of a six-screen cinema and a number of restaurants.

Harlow’s long-established market takes place five days a week in the town centre and there is a farmers’ market once a month at St John’s Arts and Recreation Centre in Old Harlow. A massive open-air market – reputedly the largest in England – takes place at nearby North Weald Airfield on Saturdays and bank holidays.

Residents can also enjoy London’s myriad shops, department stores, designer boutiques and markets, which are just over half an hour away from Harlow by train, or stop off at east London’s Westfield Stratford City, one of the largest shopping centres in Europe.

Conveniently, the nearest food shop is less than a minute’s walk from Fusion and there are several supermarkets within a mile of the development. Central Harlow is home to a large selection of high-street stores and two shopping centres – The Water Gardens and The Harvey Centre – as well as the town market, which takes place five days a week.

Education

Newhall will benefit from a community primary school once complete, but currently there are a number of good schools in the local area that cater for children of all ages.

These include Church Langley, Henry Moore, Fawbert & Barnard and Tany’s Dell primary schools, all within two miles of Fusion.

Secondary schools include Burnt Mill Academy and Passmores Academy, both six minutes drive away, and Mark Hall Academy, three minutes drive from the development.

The independent St Nicholas School caters for children aged 4 to 16, while Harlow College in the town centre has a sixth from and offers a programme of A levels, vocational courses and apprenticeships.

The college’s University Centre also delivers a number of Anglia Ruskin University undergraduate courses.

About Developer

A REPUTATION YOU CAN RELY ON

Over 60 years of great homes and great service

When it comes to buying your new home it is reassuring to know that you are dealing with one of the most successful companies in the country, with a reputation built on designing and creating fine houses and apartments nationwide backed up with one of the industry’s best after-care services.

In 1946 John and Russell Bell, newly demobbed, joined their father John T. Bell in a small family owned housebuilding business in Newcastle upon Tyne. From the very beginning John T. Bell & Sons, as the new company was called, were determined to break the mould. In the early 1950s Kenneth Bell joined his brothers in the company and new approaches to design layout and finishes were developed. In 1963 John T. Bell & Sons became part of the public corporate scene and the name Bellway evolved.

Continuing growth

Today Bellway is one of Britain’s largest house building companies and is continuing to grow throughout the country. Since its formation, Bellway has built and sold over 100,000 homes catering for first time buyers to more seasoned home buyers and their families. The Group’s rapid growth has turned Bellway into a multi-million pound company, employing over 2,000 people directly and many more sub-contractors. From its original base in Newcastle upon Tyne the Group has expanded in to all regions of the country and is now poised for further growth.

Our homes are designed, built and marketed by local teams operating from regional offices managed and staffed by local people. This allows the company to stay close to its customers and take key decisions about design, build, materials, planning and marketing in response to local and not national demands. A simple point, but one which we believe distinguishes Bellway.
