The ancient market town of Ampthill lies at the heart of rural Mid Bedfordshire among open, wooded countryside, interspersed by small, attractive villages.
Much of the town centre is a conservation area with several listed Georgian buildings, some dating back to the 17th century.
This wealth of history does not mean however, that time has stood still in Ampthill.
