The Cedars is a prestigious development of 14 dwellings set in the grounds of Barleythorpe Hall in the small hamlet of Barleythorpe, near Oakham.

The development consists of a selection of converted luxury homes and mews houses along with executive new homes ranging from 3 to 6 bedrooms.

Historical note

Known as the “Yellow Earl” Hugh Lowther, the fifth Earl of Lonsdale lived at Barleythorpe Hall with his wife Grace in one of four houses. He enjoyed hunting with the Cottesmore Hunt. The Hall was sold in 1926 to fund the extravagant lifestyle he enjoyed. He resided in Barleythorpe village until his death in 1944 – breeding racehorses rather than hunters.

The development

The converted 19th century hall is now a stunning home fit for a lord, while in the grounds there is a pleasing mix of spacious four and five bedroom houses along with charming cottages.

The Cedars is accessed via a long driveway directly off Main Road in Barleythorpe, which is on the western edge of the village. Barleythorpe Hall, which is the principle part of the original Hall, retains its own private drive off Manor Lane. The development lies just south of the A606, giving fast and easy access to Melton Mowbray to the north west and the A1 at Stamford to the east.
