South Elmsall is a small town with a population of around 4,000 people and is only a few miles from the city of Wakefield and busy town of Doncaster.

Other ideal days out can be found at Brodsworth Hall and Gardens (3 miles away in Doncaster), Hemsworth Water Park and Playworld (4 miles away at Pontefract), Cusworth Hall (Doncaster), Raceway Karting (Pontefract) or 10-pin bowling at Barnsley Bowl (8 miles away).

The more adventurous could also head out to Castleford’s Xscape Centre (9 miles away) with its superb mix of UK’s largest “real snow” indoor slope, simulated surf centre, 14-screen cinema, climbing wall, laser games and mini golf.

Sports fans also have plenty of activities to keep them happy. The area is SuperLeague territory with rugby giants Wakefield Wildcats and Castleford Tigers and rugby league team, Featherstone Rovers all just a few minutes drive away.

Secondary education is provided by Minsthorpe Community College, which also has a 6th Form College, while younger children can attend either Carlton School or Moorthorpe Primary. The nearest RC school is St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.

The nearest higher education establishment is the University of Leeds, about 35 minutes drive away.

South Elmsall is situated on the B6422 and B6474. The A638 Doncaster to Wakefield road, running to the north, connects the area with the A1 (M) at Junction 38, just 3 miles away. The area now has its own bypass which links the A1 to the Hemsworth Bypass providing excellent transport links with Barnsley and South Yorkshire.

The town is served by South Elmsall railway station which lies on the Wakefield Line, operated by Northern Rail.

It offers an hourly service to Leeds, via Wakefield Westgate, and Doncaster on Monday to Saturday with a two-hourly service on Sundays.

The area’s nearest airports are Robin Hood, at Doncaster, 15 miles away, and Leeds Bradford, a distance of 23 miles.
