Leisure facilities
Oakdale is located close to the beautiful Forest of Dean, which, for many centuries, famously provided timber from its oak trees to make boats that sailed out of the Severn Estuary. Many of the ships used to oppose the Spanish Armada were built at Lydney, using oak from this forest.
The town of Lydney is the gateway to the glorious Royal Forest of Dean by road, rail and sea. It has historic links with royalty dating back to the 13th century. The moated Norman St. Briavels Castle is said to have been built for King John, and King Edward l later rebuilt its gatehouse to help protect the castle from Welsh attack.
Nestled between the Forest of Dean and the Severn Estuary, Lydney is in a beautiful location, while still only around an hours drive from Birmingham. It lies on the A48, a major trunk route
providing access between England and Wales; which makes it convenient for commuting in both directions. The towns position is ideal for travelling to Cheltenham and Gloucester to the north east, and to Newport, Cardiff and Bristol to the south west. Lydney station, on the Gloucester-Newport line, is less than a mile from the development, offering a fast and frequent service into Gloucester in approximately 20 minutes and Cheltenham Spa in around 30 minutes.
Lydney High Street has everything you might want for daily living, with a range of traditional shops and several well attended schools. There is an abundance of sports and leisure activities including a boating lake, skate park and outdoor swimming pool. Close by, the
historic Welsh border town of Chepstow sits at the entrance to the Lower Wye Valley, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A popular tourist destination with its spectacular Norman castle ruin at the gateway into the town, Chepstow offers a wider choice of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.
Around 20 miles from Lydney, the stunning city and port of Gloucester, with its magnificent cathedral, boasts an inspiring array of shopping, restaurants, leisure and entertainment venues.
