Circa 1959 the Warley Barracks site was closed with 21 acres being sold to Ford Motor Company for their new European Headquarters. The building, opened in 1965, was specifically designed for Ford by the architects TP Bennett in the modernist architectural style replicating the design of their head office in Detroit.

Both the Ford Headquarters and the neighbouring housing dramatically changed the character of the area from a rural military base and in 1967 the Ford building opened. It became their headquarters in Europe until its closure in 2019 and subsequent sale to Land Charter.

Original architects TP Bennett alongside the John Finch Partnership were instructed to redesign the façade once more and reimagine this commercial space as prime residential giving the site its third lease of life.

In 1967 the design of the Ford building was ahead of its time and now Land Charter’s redevelopment demonstrates what can be achieved by raising the bar once more and offering a concept both unique and unrivalled locally.
