Local Information

Leisure Facilities

Close to the centre of Burton Latimer, approximately 5 miles from Kettering, 5 miles from Wellingborough, and with beautiful surrounding countryside, Buckby Grange enjoys a great location. Here, you and your family can enjoy a lively local community, great shopping and leisure facilities, fine schools and excellent transport links.

Prior to the Norman Conquest, the town was known as ‘Burtone’, with Latimer being added as a result of the local le Latimer family in the 13th century. Burton Latimer grew during the 19th century around the ironstone quarrying, clothing and footwear industries. The breakfast cereal company, Weetabix, arrived in the 1930s and they are still in the town today.

Burton Latimer is a thriving town offering a range of modern facilities and a fine selection of shops, supermarkets, pubs, bars, cafés and restaurants. Further amenities include day nurseries, schools, a medical centre, library and post office, while the lively community supports a host of clubs and activities.

For a wider range of shopping, leisure and entertainment facilities, Kettering is a short drive away. Here the traditional market and a wide range of major retailers, cafés, pubs, restaurants and schools, augment those closer to home. In addition, Kettering offers theatre, sport and leisure facilities, museums, churches and many historic buildings. Pegasus Court, an out-of-town retail/leisure park, is within easy reach of Buckby Grange and includes a multi-screen cinema, further shops and restaurants. For family fun, Wicksteed Park, home to one of the UK’s oldest theme parks, is only 4 miles away.

For even greater work and leisure opportunities, Buckby Grange is only 18 miles from the historic city of Northampton and within a 25 mile radius of the major regional centres of Leicester, Milton Keynes and Peterborough.

In contrast, Buckby Grange is perfectly placed for some of Northamptonshire’s finest countryside. From the rich pastures of the Nene Valley and the woodland that was once part of Rockingham Forest, to the uneven hills between Brixworth and Naseby, the surrounding landscape provides many opportunities for leisure. Here you can visit outstanding heritage sites including grand houses, castles and battlegrounds, enjoy boating and fishing on the River Nene or at Pitsford Reservoir, visit beautiful spired churches, or enjoy a host of country pubs and picturesque villages.
