Local Information

Leisure Facilities

Bourne’s origins stem from a single Roman road, around which the town was built, enhanced by the fine local water produced from its natural springs. The name Bourne is derived from the Anglo-Saxon word meaning water or stream and to this day the ancient waterways and springs are a distinguishing feature of the town. In the past, both ERA and BRM racing cars were built in the town, and today, Pilbeam Racing Designs and Hall and Hall continue the motorsport connection.

Close to Red Hall Gardens, the town centre enjoys attractive architecture and a fine selection of shops, supermarkets, cafés, pubs and restaurants. The Corn Exchange is a popular venue for many events and the twice-weekly market is located next to it.

One of Bourne’s finest features is the nearby Bourne Woods. Situated north west of the town, this 400 acre ancient woodland is home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, and is great for exploring on foot or by bike.

For further shopping and leisure opportunities, just 10 miles from Red Hall Gardens, Stamford is a beautifully preserved stone town, offering great facilities within a charming historic setting. Other towns within easy reach include Market Deeping and Spalding. The cathedral city of Peterborough is also within driving distance, just 15 miles south of Bourne, and offers a vast range of shops and entertainment.

Set on the edge of the Lincolnshire Vales, living at Red Hall Gardens means you’ll be perfectly placed to enjoy beautiful surrounding countryside. Here amongst the gently rolling landscape, you’ll find mellow-stone villages, thriving market towns, castles, grand houses and gardens. To the east, the Fens offer a thriving landscape, rich in waterways and wildlife, perfect for walking, cycling, boating and fishing.

The town has a number of excellent schools, including Bourne Grammar School, while other amenities include a heritage centre, leisure centre, indoor swimming pool, outdoor lido and a host of green open spaces.
