Leisure facilities

Burgess Hill is a delightful civil parish and town located in the Mid Sussex district of West Sussex, on the edge of the South Downs
National Park. Situated in gently rolling countryside, with breathtaking views of the Sussex Downs to the south and High Weald to the north, Burgess Hill is a thriving town with a strong community spirit – a truly wonderful place to call home.

The town had modest beginnings, growing from the parishes of Clayton, Keymer and Ditchling, all mentioned in the Domesday book, and steadily expanding into the thriving and vibrant town we see today. The town’s relatively recent history is evident through
its few remaining examples of spectacular Victorian architecture, which includes an engaging stretch of shops along Church Road.
The actual name of Burgess Hill is thought to link to the Burgeys family, from the late 13th century, which stood for ‘bourgeois’ –
the inhabitant of a borough.

Burgess Hill enjoys an idyllic location in the beautiful Sussex Wealds with its rolling hills and vast swathes of countryside, while still benefitting from all necessary amenities for today’s busy lifestyles. Being just on the border of the South Downs National Park, the town has easy access to miles of picturesque trails,
ancient woodlands and downlands, including Devil’s Dyke – an historic beauty spot named after the expansive dry valley that carves its way through ridges of rolling chalk grassland.

Leisure facilities abound in and around the local area, whatever you’re looking for. Burgess Hill benefits from both a football
and rugby club; excellent fitness facilities can be found at Heights Health and Fitness, and golf enthusiasts will delight in Hassocks
Golf Club. The Orion Cinema is a much loved independent cinema showing a mixture of mainstream and arthouse films, while
Ditchling Museum houses a comprehensive collection of work from the famous arts and crafts community, making for an interesting
and cultural day out.

There’s nowhere better to enjoy an aspirational new lifestyle than at Folders Meadow, Burgess Hill, especially in one of our homes.

Local shopping

Just a stones throw away from all this beauty, you’ll find the modern amenities of the town. Burgess Hill centre hosts a wide variety of specialist stores, stylish boutiques and familiar high street names to satisfy all your retail needs, whether you visit Market Place Shopping Centre, the outdoor Martlets Shopping Centre or the Martlets Hall complex which also incorporates a library and 300 seat theatre. A twice weekly market offers
an abundance of tempting local produce, while the numerous trendy restaurants and cosmopolitan café culture adds to the town’s unique and charming character.
