The town has been a centre for the brewing industry since the 11th Century and today offers a lively programme of events throughout the year in honour of its history, including the Annual Beer and Cider Festival and the Burton Real Ale and Jazz Festival. The iconic Victorian Market Hall recently underwent a £1.5 million redevelopment and is now home to a variety of retailers and high quality food outlets as well as a ‘pop up’ market on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

In terms of natural attractions, the Trent Washlands provide an expanse of open space for wildlife and recreation. This area of fields and woods bordering the river Trent is teeming with wildlife and criss crossed by walkways and a sculpture trail. Cannock Chase, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is home to numerous woodland walks and miles of cycle paths and is located just 20 miles from Steeping Place.
