Leisure & Recreation
The village has two pubs, the Wheatsheaf and the Red Lion, the latter a listed building dating back to 1687. Both have gardens and both serve meals. Drayton Park Golf Club, an 18-hole parkland course with modern clubhouse facilities, is located on the southern edge of the village, and the White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre, three miles away in Abingdon, includes swimming and teaching pools, a gym, squash and badminton courts and indoor and outdoor tennis courts.

Recycling Facilities

The car park of the Red Lion pub has recycling bins for paper and glass bottles and jars. On the southern edge of the village, near the golf club, there is also a large recycling centre that accepts white goods, TVs and electronic equipment, clothes, garden waste and most other household items.


Express buses between Oxford and Didcot via Abingdon town centre stop on Abingdon Road close to Walnut Meadow, and there is a path just to the north of the development that provides an off-road walking or cycling route into Abingdon. Didcot Parkway railway station, around four miles from Walnut Meadow, provides a fast service to Paddington that reduces the journey time to around 45 minutes, as well as additional services to Bristol and South Wales.

Education & Health
Drayton Community Primary School, which has extensive outdoor space for teaching, play and sporting activities and offers a range of after school clubs, is just quarter of a mile from Walnut Meadow and linked to the development by a traffic-free pedestrian and cycle path. Pupils from Drayton usually move on to the John Mason School in Abingdon for secondary education. The Marcham Road Health Centre in Abingdon is less than two miles away, and there is a choice of dental surgeries in the town.

Dane’s convenience store and newsagent is around 600 yards from Walnut Meadow, with Drayton Post Office and Stores and Vickery’s hardware shop just a little further on. The village also has a hairdresser and a pet shop. The neighbouring village, Steventon, is just five minutes walk away and offers a Co-op food store with a dry cleaners, a sandwich shop and a popular Indian restaurant. A wider choice of high street names, local traders and supermarkets can be found nearby in Abingdon.

Then we’ll keep you informed as your new home is being built, and invite you round at the appropriate time to choose things like kitchen worktops and bathroom tiles. If you want to measure up for carpets and curtains, we’ll do our best to arrange things.

When you get your keys, there’s a meeting to go over all the important stuff like stopcocks and thermostats, and we’ll also leave you full instructions. But here’s the best part. We don’t go away. We’ll leave you in peace, of course, but if you need help or advice we’ll be on hand for as long as you need us. That’s the kind of relationship we like.
