Leisure Facilities

With the Forest of Bowland on your doorstep, and Kendal, the gateway to the Lakes, just over 30 miles away, you'll be spoiled for choice when it comes to the great outdoors. Of course, if you prefer yur leisure more adrenaline fuelled, you can always head to the heart-stopping rides of Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Closer to home, Garstang has much to offer, from Garstang Leisure Centre to the sophistication of Garstang Country Hotel and Golf Club. Head to Preston for cinemas and the famous Guildhall Theatre, or to Lancaster for the Grand and the Dukes. In season, Blackpool hosts a range of international shows, plus of course, the famous illuminations along the Golden Mile.

Garstang provides a good selection of local restaurants and gastro-pubs, including Th'owd Tithe Barn close to the development. The Royal Oak and the Wheatsheaf are also well worth investigating for fine pub grub, while the Priory Hotel, Pipers, The Great Season and Crofters Hotel offer a more sophisticated dining experience.

For a wider choice of restaurants, with something for every taste and budget, try Lancaster or Preston, with Red Peppercorn and Coco's Soul Food ranked amongst the top in each city.

Local Shopping

Garstang has a proud tradition as the world's first Fair Trade town, and you can find full details of the goods available locally in the local produce guide available on Garstang.net. This achievement can be seen at its best every Thursday, with the popular produce market that dates back to 1300 and includes famous Lancashire cheeses such as the town's own Garstang Blue.

Garstang also has a good selection of independent shops and an indoor market that is open every week from Wednesday to Saturday. For high street shopping, try the Fishergate and St Georges Shopping Centres in Preston, or grab a big name bargain at Freeport Fleetwood outlet village.

Education

Younger pupils in Garstang have a choice of Garstang County Primary, or the church schools of St Thomas's CofE Primary or St Mary & Michael Catholic Primary. Garstang Community Academy offers education for years seven to ten, but older pupils will need to travel for sixth form studies.

Lancashire has a number of independent schools of high repute, including Stonyhurst College in Clitheroe, Rossall School in Fleetwood and Kirkham Grammar School, with St Pius X Preparatory School also close by.

Transport Links

The A6 Garstang Bypass links the town to Preston to the south and Lancaster to the north, both just over ten miles away. The bright lights of Blackpool are just 16 miles away via the M55, while the M6 can be accessed just six miles to the north at junction 33 or around 8 miles to the South at Junction 32.

Garstang does not have a railway station, but you can join the West Coast Mailine at either Preston or Lancaster, with swift services to London, Glasgow and Edinburgh. For international travel, head for Blackpool Airport or Manchester International, or for something a little different, head to Heysham for direct car ferries to the Isle of Man.
