Leisure Facilities

Special places include nearby Cragside House and Gardens, a National Trust property. Standing on a rocky hillside above a forest garden, it was the first house in the world to be lit using hydroelectric power. The house is surrounded by an enormous rock garden and a huge display of rhododendrons.

The village also has its own annual traditional music festival, established more than 40 years ago. Its unique atmosphere attracts performers from throughout the UK to celebrate a great weekend of Northumbrian musical traditions.

Educational amenities are excellent. At primary level, Rothbury First School has a fine reputation. Its curriculum extends beyond national levels, with a special focus on personal, social and health education. Bamburgh Castle is less than an hours drive.

For children aged nine to thirteen, Dr Tomlinson Church of England Middle School has received good ratings. At secondary level, the King Edward VI Academy in Morpeth and The Duchessís Community High School in Alnwick are also well rated.

Sports include angling on the river Coquet, swimming in the 13.5-metre pool at the Rothbury pool and gym, and getting into the swing of the 18-hole Rothbury golf club.
