The pretty village of Chilham lies high above the Great Stour River. With a medieval square surrounded by timber-framed houses of Tudor origin it also has a 16th century church where it is believed that Thomas Becket was buried. At the top of the square sits the imposing Chilham Castle.

Famous as a film location for Miss Marple, Poirot and Jane Austenís Emma, it offers a little bit of history in the middle of some of the finest countryside in the South East of England.

Renowned for its beauty and charm, this lovely village is set in the picturesque Kentish Downs. The surrounding countryside is criss-crossed by many footpaths, bridal-ways and country lanes, giving you access to a stunning landscape of woodland and open country with breathtaking views. For the hardier walker, Chilham lies on the routes for the North Downs Way and the Pilgrims Way to Canterbury.

For those with a passion for horses, thereís the renowned Chilham Park, set in the beautiful 300 acre Chilham Castle parkland offering tuition, livery and a superb cross-country course.

For leisure and entertainment youíll be spoilt for choice in Canterbury with the Marlowe theatre and Odeon cinema, numerous independent health and fitness clubs, a tennis club and the 18-hole woodland course at the Canterbury Golf Club. Nearby you can also find Canterbury Cathedral, St Augustineís Abbey ruins, the Roman Museum and much, much more.

Local Shopping

The village amenities include a restaurant and teashop, post office and gift shop and two pubs, The Woolpack as you enter the village and the White Horse, which dates from the 16th century and overlooks the village square. Nearby you can also find an old cider farm, an antiques barn and an abundance of local produce.

Canterbury has a number of large supermarkets and excellent shopping at Whitefriars, which lies to the south-west of the city and is the centre for all your shopping needs with everything from chemists and department stores to fashion and food outlets. Ashford also offers great shopping with three centres including the award winning Ashford Designer Outlet.
