Queen Victoria married Prince Albert in the same year that the Penny Black stamp was issued, the Cunard Shipping Company was established, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra was formed, the Birkenhead to Chester Railway was opened and Thomas Hardy was born.
