The office is situated in Victoria Place opposite the town's war memorial and is therefore quite easy to locate. The waterfront is within walking distance of the office and makes Brightlingsea a popular haven for yachtsman and dinghy sailors throughout the summer season. There is a good network of bus routes through this town which link Brightlingsea and Colchester and the neighbouring villages of Great Bentley, Alresford, Frating, Thorrington and the town of Wivenhoe with its mainline railway station with links to London Liverpool Street. Brightlingsea is convenient for the A120 and A12 trunk roads and lies to the south east of the larger market town of Colchester approximately 9 miles distant.

The town has the benefit of schooling for all ages, with infant and junior schools close to the town centre whilst Colne Community School incorporates a sixth form college and a well equipped sports amenity which is available to the public.
