Braithwait is a name already familiar to those who have an interest in the history of Maida Vale. From 1808 the Braithwaite family headed by John Braithwaite, inventor and entrepreneur) lived for many years at the Old Manor House, Westbourne Green, a large house with grounds covering all of what is now Sutherland Avenue up to the Harrow Road.
