Bray & Co, Helstonbranch details

Bray & Co estate agents, established nearly twenty years ago, is run by
owner Michael Ivens and his team, from two offices working together to sell property in one of the most spectacular areas of West Cornwall. It is the only agency with offices in St Keverne on the Lizard Peninsula, a designated Area of Outstanding Beauty, and in the fishing village of Porthleven, close to the market town of Helston, famous for it’s Flora Day celebrations in May.

People travel from all over the country, and indeed the world, to visit this popular holiday location, with many choosing to move permanently to an area regarded as one of the most beautiful parts of the British Isles. There is also always considerable demand for properties suitable as holiday homes. As an independent estate agent, Bray & Co has built up a considerable reputation for selling individual coastal and country homes throughout the area, offering a very personal and supportive service to both clients and buyers alike.

From fishermen’s cottages to fine period homes, many of the properties we sell having stunning sea views while others further inland are often tucked away...hidden valleys, full of Cornish character. The most southerly part of the country, The Lizard Peninsula is a unique place, with it’s dramatic cliffs, mild climate and rare flora and fauna. The rocks and cliffs of the coastline offer shelter to tiny fishing villages huddled in coves looking very much as they did centuries ago. Small whitewashed cottages, many thatched, are clustered around harbours in villages such as Coverack, Cadgwith, Mullion and Porthallow where fishing is still very much part of every day life. Not far away on the north eastern boundary are the famous sailing waters of the Helford River, and the picturesque villages of Helford itself, Manaccan, and St Anthony. Our St Keverne office is situated by the square in the heart of this thriving village on the eastern side of the peninsula.

Standing as the gateway to the Lizard Peninsula is the ancient market town of Helston, known throughout the world for the Flora Day celebrations which attract thousands of spectators to watch the four processional dances through the streets, led by the town band. Here there are three primary schools, a comprehensive school, a sports centre with an indoor swimming pool, a gymnastics centre and folk museum, to name just some of the facilities in this busy town.

Just a mile or so away is the fishing port of Porthleven, both a working village and a holiday destination. Much of it’s daily routine is still carried out around the harbour with houses and cottages lining the hillsides on either side. Boats still fish from here, the main catch being crayfish, crab and lobster, and restaurants, pubs, galleries and gift shop trade alongside a fishmonger, chandlers, a pottery and our own offices at the Harbour Head.

Popular attractions within the area covered by our two offices include Flambards theme park on the outskirts of Helston, the National Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, the Goonhilly Earth Satellite Station, Poldark Mine at Wendron, and many beautiful, sandy beaches.
