  • paragraph

Our 12 step guide to buying your home makes the process clear and simple:

    • Work out your budget - This will depend on how much cash you plan to put into the property and how much you can borrow if you are getting a mortgage. It is worth speaking to a mortgage broker at an early stage so you can secure a 'mortgage agreement in principle'. This will allow you to move quickly once you find something to buy.
    • Set your criteria - Decide what you want to buy. Are you looking for a flat or a house, how many bedrooms do you want, and would you like a garden or balcony?
    • Choose the area - Research the area, with the help of the area guides on our website
    • Select the property - View properties through Currell and find one you like
    • Agree an offer - Currell will put forward your offer and negotiate acceptance
    • Finalise your mortgage - If you need one
    • Arrange a survey - To check the condition of the property
    • Instruct a solicitor - This can sometimes take a few days as they will need to do money laundering checks. You can save time by instructing your solicitor before your offer has been accepted. It will also help if you have your documents ready - your passport or driving licence, and a utility bill or bank statement not more than three months old.
    • Pay the deposit and exchange contracts
    • Book removers or hire a van
    • Completion - You pay the balance of the purchase price and property is now yours
    • Move in!
