Introduction to Eastbourne - Recently voted as the most holiday friendly resort in the UK by Virgin, Eastbourne is a picturesque Victorian seaside town located at the foot of the South Downs in East Sussex, between Brighton and Hastings. It has a population of approximately 100,000 and generates the majority of its income from tourism due to being the sunniest resort in the United Kingdom, and its vast range of attractions and activities for all ages. These include several theatres, Beachy Head national park (SSI site and area of outstanding natural beauty), international tennis courts, art gallery, numerous golf clubs, water sports school and sailing clubs, marina complex with shops, restaurants and cinema, children’s adventure park and beautiful outlying villages such as East Dean, Jevington and Littlington. Its award winning seafront with clean beaches and manicured gardens is a short walk from the town centre with its shopping and dining facilities. Eastbourne has over 100 seafront hotels, the traditional De Vere Grand at the west end and the recently re furbished Cavendish are amongst them.

Property Market - Eastbourne offers a wide range of property from modern waterfront apartments at Sovereign Harbour to idyllic thatched cottages in the surrounding villages, and everything in between, with prices currently ranging from £70,000 for a studio flat to £3,000,000 for a detached house to the West of the town.

Transport - Rail links from Eastbourne enable commuters to reach London Victoria within around 90 minutes and the busy city of Brighton within approximately half an hour.
Bus- A frequent and reliable bus service enables convenient travel to all districts.
Road- Access to A27, M23 and A259.
Air – Gatwick Airport is approximately 50 miles away and Heathrow Airport is approximately 80 miles away.

Education - Eastbourne offers a wide range of both State and Independent schools. Ratton Secondary School is well known as a centre for performing arts. Willingdon Secondary has facilities for hearing and sight impaired pupils. Eastbourne College offers a range of courses including adult learning.

Entertainment/Leisure – Eastbourne’s promenade plays host to the annual Airbourne Air Show with a range of displays including the famous Red Arrows. The bandstand on the seafront holds regular concerts and tribute acts accompanied by firework displays. The Beer Festival is held in August at the winter garden. The Arts Festival gives residents and visitors the chance to visit homes and exhibitions of local artists.

Sport -The Aegon International Tennis Tournament is held at Devonshire Park each year attracting massive crowds. Water sports events including sailing and windsurfing frequently take place as well as surfing and wake boarding. Skating lessons and hire are available in the summer months. Sporting facilities in Eastbourne are plentiful and include many gyms, several swimming pools, golf courses, basketball and tennis courts and football and rugby pitches. There are numerous routes and trails for walkers and mountain bikers to enjoy.

Culture and history – Eastbourne has many local attractions including stately homes such as Firle Place, Charleston Manor House, Michelham Priory and Filching Manor. Historical landmarks include Herstmonceaux and Pevensey Castle in the village of Westham. The Redoubt Fortress that was used to store ammunition in war time and the Martello Towers that were used for the positioning of infantry and artillery to defend the bay from attacks by the French during war time can still be found on the seafront
