Camberley is an affluent town situated at the northern edge of the Blackwater Valley, 31 miles southwest of central London, in the far west of Surrey. It lies in the corridor between the M3and M4 motorways providing easy access to London, M25, Gatwick airport and Heathrow airport which is only a twenty minute drive away. Camberley British Rail station provides direct peak hours rail services to London Waterloo and there are good bus links to and from Camberely town centre and surrounding areas.
The town as it now stands grew up around the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst which was built in 1812. The town was originally know as Cambridge Town but soon became known as Camberley to avoid confusion with Cambridge in Cambridgeshire.
The town centre is built around the Main Square and the High Street and provides many shops bars and clubs. The new Camberely Atrium complex, adjacent to the town centre, provides extensive leisure facilities including a nine-screen cinema, bowling alley, a health and fitness club, cafes and restaurants. The Arena, located close to the town centre provides additional sports/leisure facilities including a swimming pool. The town has its own public library, theatre and football club and is home to Surrey Heath Borough Council. The Meadows Shopping centre houses one of the largest Marks & Spencer stores in Europe.
The world renowned Farnborough Airshow attracts people from all over the world to the area. The show celebrates the history of Aviation and the weekend air show is a spectacle to behold.
There many fine state and independent schools in the Camberley with many families moving into the area to benefit from what these schools have to offer. These include Collingwood College, Kings International College and Tomlinscote School and Sixth Form College which is in the top 40 schools for its outstanding grades. The nearest universities are Royal Holloway College, the University of London in Egham, the University of Surrey in Guildford and the University of Reading.
