    When we find a suitable tenant, we will contact a credit reference agency to make checks about them and their guarantor (a person who will promise to pay their rent if they fail to do so).

    The agency will search to see if the tenant has any county court judgements against them and that they are on the electoral roll at the address they have given us.

    We are MARTINS ESTATES, established in Ashford over twenty years ago and Ashford longest established INDEPENDENT sales and letting agent, not to be mistaken with MARTIN & CO a newly established franchise who trade under a similar name.

    Unlike many agents we DO NOT CHARGE tenancy renewal fees. Our check in/out fee is also much cheaper than most of our competitors and paid at the start of the tenancy. There are no nasty surprises with our charges with a single charge taken at the start and including VAT, regardless of the numbers of tenants.

    Remember if the property is being advertised with multiple agents our charges are likely to be CHEAPER saving you money if you view through us.

    Martin Wilkins (Principal) Cert PFS
    Martin opened Martins Estates in 1991. Coming from a financial services background, Martin realised that many of the local independent agents were being taken over by the corporate chains, banks and building societies and saw an opening for an independent local agent offering a range of services including sales, lettings, financial services and conveyancing. With over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, Martin also heads up Martins Estates sister companies The Independent Mortgage Centre and Independent Property Lawyers.

    Glenn Wright (Head Of Lettings)

    With over twenty years of experience in the lettings business, Glenn launched the lettings department for Martins Estates in 1995. Since then he and his team have established themselves as Ashford's premier letting agent managing a sizeable portfolio for landlords based in many countries across the globe. As an experienced Landlord of over twenty years, Glenn fully understands the economics of property ownership and his wealth of experience in this field  has enabled Martins to develop a growing portfolio in Folkestone and Maidstone as well as Ashford, Canterbury and Faversham, MRL are looking to develop their business interests throughout Kent.

    Richard Ottaway (Head Of Sales) Cert PFS

    With twenty five years of sales experience, Richard has a wealth of local knowledge in the housing market on both sales, lettings and property development. He has been the Sales Manager here for over twenty years, making Martins Estates the longest established independent Estates Agent in the Ashford Area. Richard has worked in Maidstone, Canterbury and Folkestone and is a fully qualified Financial Advisor. Having built and converted a number of properties over the years Richard fully understands the planning process from concept to completion.

    As a Project Manager Richard has successfully implemented projects from single units to small self build schemes for both himself and clients often bringing a new perspective when talking to clients about their property's potential.

    Laurie Wilkins (Senior Negotiator) BSc Hons: MPhil
    Having completed her BSc in Marine Biology, Laurie spent time in Australasia as a dive instructor before returning to the UK where she became a qualified energy assesor. Laurie succesfully started an Inventory service here in Ashford before returning to the family business as a Senior Negotiator. Dividing her time equally between the Sales and Lettings side of the business, Laurie has a wealth of local knowledge and the expertise gained in starting and running her own business has served her well with the changing dynamics of the property market.

    Antony joined the Lettings team in 2005 as a negotiator and has spent the last seven years developing his knowledge and skill set.       Having joined the Financial Services Industry in 1981 with Imperial Life of Canada I have remained in that industry ever since. I found I had a great interest in property and the acquisition of it. I majored in the Mortgage market obtaining a wealth of experience in the underwriting of various lenders and their schemes. Whilst remaining in the industry I soon set up my own Estate Agency adding a Lettings department soon after.

      Eventually I formed our own Mortgage Brokerage and have since added a conveyancing Company. I have an holistic approach to home ownership and we can now sell a house, arrange the finance on it, do the legal work to acquire it, protect it through mortgage protection insurance, let it out and manage it. Our clients can take advantage of all of these or just one. I still major in mortgages and really enjoy the contact with clients which keeps me grounded and my knowledge fresh.
