Chinnor and its surrounding hamlets are part of the ancient chain of villages following the spring line at the foot of the Chiltern escarpment. The record of Chinnor's modern history began in 1642 when five hundred musketeers and some troops of the cavalry were stationed here during the Civil War.
The modern day village offers shopping facilities, a Post Office, sports fields and play areas for children. A village centre has been created, providing a coffee shop, day care for the elderly and a youth centre. The High Street and Oakley have been designated Conservation Areas and the windmill is being restored only a few yards from its original location.
