A rainwater harvesting system takes the rain water from roof gutters, filtering out leaves and debris and stores the water in an underground tank. This is then pumped into the house to be used for non-potable applications such as toilet flushing and washing machines. If the tank runs empty, the system automatically switches to mains supply. This can reduce water consumption by up to 50%.

FARINGDON The historic Market Town of Faringdon lies within the Vale of the White Horse and was first mentioned in the Domesday Book when the town suffered considerable damage during the civil wars of 1634-1646 at the hands of Oliver Cromwell's troops. Towards the end of the 18th Century Faringdon had a regular mail coach service from London to Gloucester and the original coaching inns of The Crown and The Bell can be seen in the town centre today. There has been a market in the town since 1218, a tradition that still continues every Tuesday with a successful local Farmers Market taking place on the first Tuesday of every month.

Situated in the centre of the market place is the historic old town hall which is now used as a meeting room. Looking down on the market place is the magnificent All Saints Church with the towns best known landmark the 140ft high Faringdon Folly standing on the North East side of the town. This was constructed in 1935, commissioned by Lord Berners and was the last Folly to be built in England. Restored in the early 1980s The Folly was reopened by Lord Berner's heir Robert Herber Percy who gave the tower and 4 acres for the benefit of the people of Faringdon and surrounding district. The Folly Tower is open to the public for a small fee from Easter Sunday on the first Sunday of each month and on bank holidays until October.

The town is by-passed and offers a good mix of independent shops, public houses, restaurants, nurseries and schools to suit children of all ages (both state and private).
