Portugal property tipped as investment hotspot

Thursday, October 1st, 2009
Portugal property is fast becoming a favourite among estate agents predicting the next international investment hotspot, it would seem.

An increasing number of estate agents are forecasting great things for Portugal property investors, the Buy Association has claimed, particularly now the country is officially in recovery, beating many other European property rivals.

The Silver Coast in particular appears to be a good bet for a Portugal property, with prices in the region predicted to rise by between 50 per cent and 75 per cent by several estate agents, according to the association.

The ever-growing popularity of golf resort-based Portugal property is also worth noting, according to the company, with the Algarve cited as a particular area of interest.

Portugal’s Silver Coast is famous for its beautiful long stretches of golden sand, deep blue waters, excellent cuisine and vineyards which are responsible for producing some of the country’s finest wines and port.

Sven favours Portugal property

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009
He may have signed on as Notts County’s new Director of Football in July, but Sven Goran Eriksson’s top summer signing may well be his Portugal property.

The Swede’s luxury Portugal property is set on the westernmost point of mainland Europe, the Boca do Inferno, overlooking the serene and peaceful beaches of Guincho, according to the Daily Mail.

Chief football correspondent Martin Samuel states: "The villa is constructed over a number of levels, each landscaped and designed to best capture the view and some stunning sunsets.

"To the north are the hills and the town of Sintra, medieval and mysterious, below, a handful of Portugal’s finest, and most expensive, restaurants."

The area is noted for its windswept waterfront and crashing waves, according to Mr Samuel, which could make it the perfect choice for fans of watersports seeking the perfect Portugal property base - and who knows, maybe Sven himself is a secret silver surfer?

Notts County is not Sven’s first venture into English football, having formerly managed Manchester City as well as the national team.

Portugal property in price rise top ten

Friday, September 11th, 2009
Portugal property owners have something to celebrate this quarter, with the latest figures showing price rises across the country.

The latest figures from Knight Frank’s Global House Price Index place Portugal property among the top ten fastest risers for quarter two of 2009, with an average 1.7 per cent increase.

Commenting on recent holiday home-buying trends Paul Collins, editor at BuyAssociation, said: "People are buying property more for the fact that they can get away from the stresses and strains of work [and] they get time to spend with their family.

"There is a certain degree of increased confidence in the markets, which hopefully will lead to more Brits feeling confident enough to buy overseas again and get back on the overseas property market."

Half of the countries surveyed for the report posted a second quarter increase for 2009, including Portugal property.

Florida property owners can also take some good news from the study, with US prices shown to have risen 1.3 per cent in the second three months of 2009, placing the country 12th on the list.ADNFCR-1848-ID-19357643-ADNFCR

Portugal property showcased at exhibition

Thursday, July 30th, 2009
Brits seeking their own Portugal property place in the sun may want to attend an exhibition advising them on all aspects of their potential purchase.

A Place In The Sun Live, based on the popular Channel 4 programme, will showcase thousands of holiday hideaways at the NEC in Birmingham from October 2nd-4th, with a special Portugal Pavilion for those particularly interested in Portugal property.

A Place in the Sun editor Richard Way tells homesgofast.com: "The balmy year-round climate, unspoilt beaches and world-class golf have maintained the Algarve’s popularity as a favourite second home destination with Brits.

‘And interest is now spreading to the Silver Coast, north of Lisbon, where a number of eco-friendly low-density developments overlooking the sweeping Atlantic beaches and close to cosy traditional towns are proving popular.’

Over 40 possible holiday home countries will be featured, including Italy property, French property and Spanish property, with prices to suit every budget, ranging from £20,000 to over £1 million.

Travel agents Thomson and First Choice recently claimed that short-haul holidays to Portugal property are as popular as ever with sun-seeking Brits, despite the economic downturn.

Thomson: Brits won’t give up Portugal property holiday

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009
Sunshine holidays, including those to Portugal property, are not being sacrificed by Brits counting the recession-time pennies, it has been claimed.

Travel agents Thomson and First Choice state that short-haul holidays to Portugal property are as popular as ever with sun-seeking Brits, as are staple long-haul holidays to US destinations such as Florida property vacations.

A spokesperson for the company commented: "Our own research in November […] showed a staggering 88 per cent […] would cut back in other ‘luxuries’ such as eating out and home improvement, rather than cutting back on their holidays.

"Fifty nine per cent said that even if they had to cut back on spending, their main annual holiday would be the last thing they would give up."

The British love affair with the guaranteed sunshine offered by Portugal property is further reinforced by a 2008 PricewatwerhouseCoopers survey, where the majority of consumers ranked holidays and short breaks as their top two spending priorities.

Portugal property recommended for a home in the sun

Monday, July 27th, 2009
Sun-seekers should consider Portugal property when investing in a holiday home, it has been claimed.

While Portugal property prices may have fallen less than those for Spanish property, there are still plenty of bargains to be found in the region and plenty on offer for those seeking fun in the sun, according to the Guardian.

Property expert Graham Norwood writes: ‘Britons seeking a bargain holiday home in the sun may look to Spain or France, but they shouldn’t ignore one of Europe’s more salubrious locations.

‘If you reckon Portugal is merely an upmarket version of Spain, think again; it has a different philosophy to its Iberian neighbour.’

Plus points to investing in a Portugal property include strict limitations on coastal building, ensuring beach areas do not become over-developed and that tourist demand for such properties remains high, according to the newspaper.

Travel Agency On The Beach recently claimed that UK holiday-makers are not being put off going abroad for their summer vacation, despite the economic downturn.

Portugal property seekers told to get real

Friday, July 24th, 2009
British people seeking Portugal property may want to take heed of some newly-published top tips for buying a place in the sun.

The key element to a successful holiday purchase is to remain realistic, according to Shelter Offshore, which advises Portugal property hunters to take five simple steps to second home success.

Portugal property hunting may seem like fun in the sun, but potential buyers are advised to make some for some serious number crunching too, by sorting out all money matters before they leave the UK and sticking to their budgets.

Spending time in potential locations is also recommended, as is checking the cost of flight routes to the nearest airport to the Portugal property destination being considered.

Finally, the magazine suggests going back to the books to think about any hidden costs, while all owners are advised to have an exit strategy in case unforeseen events arise.

Portugal has a population of 10,566,212 and a land area of 92,391 square kilometres.

Portugal property best for canoeists?

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009
Riverside Portugal properties may receive a tourist boost this year following claims that canoeing is fast becoming a favourite holiday activity for Brits.

The spirit of adventure is still alive and well among UK residents, according to John Lewis and Waitrose, which state that canoeing is now one of the most popular adventure activities among Brits on holiday.

John Lewis and Waitrose director of card services James Furse commented: "People will always be seeking sun, sea and adventure.

"If you look at some of the fastest growing activities in the UK, canoeing is one of them."

A holiday at a Portugal property can certainly offer sun, sea and adventure, according to Portugal Sport and Adventure, which recommends the remote beauty of the Peneda-Geres National Park for canoeing enthusiasts.

Portugal property near the lake at Alqueva, Alentejo, which features Europe’s largest man-made dam, will also whet the appetite of boating fans, the website states.

Douro Valley is known as "the home of port wine", and can be visited by Portugal property-hunters via a scenic riverside road running between Peso da Regua and Pinhao.

Holidays in Portugal property a cheaper option than UK?

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009
Portugal property still holds its holiday appeal for Brits despite the recession, it has been claimed.

Travel agency On the Beach recommends savvy British residents looking to save money of their summer vacation this year would be better off flying to destinations including Portugal property, than holidaying at home.

Alistair Daly, marketing director at On the Beach, commented: "Recent research has shown that holidays in the UK are often still more expensive than a holiday abroad.

"Costs such as food and drink, excursions and activities are generally cheaper than in the UK [meaning] a holiday abroad still remains the cheaper option."

A recent survey by Post Office Travel Insurance found that 60 per cent of people still intend to take a vacation abroad despite the recession, with 37 per cent looking to holiday for less.

The regions of Albufeira, Vilamoura and the Algarve were recently revealed as Portugal property hotspots by buyabroad.com managing director John Reilly.
