The castle is laid out in the form of a “V” and consists of two separate parts both unique in their own architectural styles. One wing has the main original entrance or barbican with the original crest of the Barberini family still in place. Between two rectangular battlement towers sits the original wooden drawbridge. The second wing is more rustic and simple in its architectural style with the battlements still retaining their arrow loopholes and circular bastions. Within the defensive walls, through the drawbridge, we find the internal courtyard surrounded on three sides by the domestic areas where are located the fitness / spa and theatre and is totally dominated by the imposing fortress. On the eastern side of this beautiful courtyard we find the military guard house for the defence of the castle whilst on the western wing we find the cellars ,the old grain stores and other general store rooms.
