Situation: The Carrots Fishery
Historically well known for salmon fishing, the middle Wye is arguably some of the river's best fishing and offers salmon, trout and coarse fishing. The two beats offer numerous pools and sections of goodquality fly water for salmon and trout.
The renowned Carrots Fishery is located in the middle Wye beginning approximately 1 mile downstream of Hereford at Hampton Bishop from approximate grid reference SO5465 3812 and extending to approximate grid reference SO5560 3621. The Fishery is owned by two moieties andthe Upper and Lower Beats are shared on alternate weeks.
Consisting of approximately 2.43 miles of mostly double and some single bank fishing. This section of the Wye offers some good deep salmon pools and a mix of streamy and slow-moving water for the target species.
The fishing consists of 2/12ths of a Syndicate that owns 50% of the fishing rights. This interest is apportioned as 2 rods on Mondays with
2 rods on Sundays on a rota arrangement between syndicate members.
The fishery of the Upper Beat and Lower Beat are shared between the two moieties who own the fishery and are fished by members onalternate weeks. The Upper Beat consists of approximately 1670m of double bank fishing and 91m of single bank fishing. The Lower Beat consists of approximately 1403m of double bank fishing and 739m ofsingle bank fishing.
Access to the Fishery is from The Bunch of Carrots pub where there is car parking and vehicular access to the fishery. There is a metalled drivealong the side of the stank to a further car parking area and the fishinghut and continuing vehicular and pedestrian access to the remainder ofthe fishery.
Fishing Season:
Salmon: 3rd March to 17th October.
Trout: 3rd March to 30th September. Both statutory catch and release fishing at all times.
Coarse: 16th June to 14th March.
Method of Sale: Private treaty.
Catch Records: There are no current catch records available only historic records.1972 – 1987 have an average of 89 fish caught per year.
