It’s a slow-paced, friendly place where agriculture is the mainstay of the local economy.
A long, sandy beach skirts a wide bay to the east of town.

Sitia has a small airport with daily flights to and from Athens and a few charter flights from Europe during the summer. The international airport of Heraklion is 2 hours by car.
The port has ferry connections to Piraeus and other islands of the Cyclades and Dodecanese.
