The romantic bougainvillea house in Ferragudo

This is perhaps the most famous house in the most photographed typical Portuguese street in Ferragudo. Colourful beautifully maintained cottages on either side of the narrow alleyway paved with traditional calçadas form an iconic image. This house, with the living room and kitchen on the ground floor and a generous bedroom upstairs, stands under the beautiful bougainvillea hanging over the alley. Don't be surprised when a radiant bride and groom have their wedding day immortalised here on a sunny day. This place oozes romance!
This cottage was completely rebuilt in 1992, preserving its characteristic features and appearance such as the wooden windows with shutters and exterior doors. At the south-west facing rear of the house are the sunny outdoor spaces. There is a patio on the ground floor and a terrace upstairs with even views to the ocean. This house will retain its value due to its unique location and appearance. A combination of living and renting is an interesting option. Who wouldn't want to stay in this romantic bougainvillea house?

The house stands at the top of the hill of the historic part of Ferragudo just 100 metres from the church with the beautiful view over the bay of the Arade River and the ocean. Ferragudo's cosy central square with cafés and restaurants is 200 metres' walk away. To the beach it is a 250-metre walk. The idyllic street is accessible to pedestrians. For residents, it is possible to occasionally reach the house by car, it is only 2.5 metres wide. Incidentally, there is usually plenty of parking at 100 metres.

The solid wood front door opens into the living room, which has air conditioning for possible cooling or heating and a wood burning closed fireplace. The terracotta-coloured tiled floor continues into the fully equipped kitchen. To the rear is a generous storage room. Double glazed doors open onto the south-west facing sheltered patio.
At the entrance of the staircase to the first floor is the guest toilet. The solid wood-clad staircase leads to a landing with a door to the bedroom. The spacious bedroom, which is air-conditioned for cooling or heating, has a window with shutters at the front and French doors with plenty of glass and with shutters at the back. The bathroom also has a window with shutters. The rear doors open to the sunny rear terrace with views to the blue ocean.
