Located in the center of the Algarve, in the southernmost region of Portugal, Albufeira is the county seat and belongs to the District of Faro, which is 39 km away. With an area of 14,800 ha and a population of around 40 thousand inhabitants, it is divided into five parishes: Albufeira, Ferreiras, Guia, Olhos d'Água and Paderne.
The coast is made up of cliffs cut by beaches with a distinctly Mediterranean climate: hot, dry summers and mild winters, with reduced rainfall, especially between the months of October to March and with an average annual temperature of around 17.5ºC. One of the main tourist regions in the country, Albufeira almost needs no introduction.
Tourism is the most important activity in the municipality of Albufeira. In the 1960s, a real economic expansion began in the Municipality. With the arrival of international tourism, Albufeira became part of the main tourist routes. Currently, Albufeira is, without a doubt, one of the main tourist centers in the country. Geographically, the region has a coastline of 30 km spread across 23 beaches with fine sand and crystal clear water.
The area is nationally one of those with the highest concentration of blue flags (European symbol of beach quality). Parallel to tourism, other services were created. Restaurants and bars expanded a little throughout the municipality. The nightlife is one of the hottest in the entire Algarve.
