Dating back to The Doomsday Book, Nunthorpe was aptly named after the area ‘Thorpe’ was inhabited by a reputable group of Cistercian nuns in the mid 12th Century who then retained their lands after moving to Baysdale and so became Nunthorpe. Now the area boasts attractive tree-lined streets, multiple primary and secondary schools and local amenities including a post office and a pharmacy in addition to numerous popular sports clubs. 

Nunthorpe is served by both Gypsy Lane and Nunthorpe railway stations, which are on the Esk Valley Line, Middlesbrough station to Whitby. Nunthorpe also has good bus connections to both Middlesbrough and Guisborough and It is located close to main roads like the A174 and A19.

Middlesbrough 6.4 miles, Darlington 22.9 miles, Stokesley 5.7 miles, Saltburn 10.9 miles, Durham Tees Valley Airport 18.1 miles.
