Description

Sellers Insight:

Our first impressions of Cedar House have been confirmed daily during the eight years we have lived here. It's a very welcoming home. It manages to perfectly combine a traditional external appearance with a high specification and modern features. And, of course, sitting on the ridge between the Wye and Eastbach valleys, the views are superb at all times of the year. And its location is ideal for a wide range of pursuits. Since we came, we have landscaped the gardens to complement the house with external features and seasonal planting. The result is a home which is enjoyable throughout the year and is perfect for indoor and outdoor entertaining. We hope and expect that Cedar House's next owners will treasure the rare combination of features it offers as much as we have.

Property In Brief:

A panoramic view of rolling patchwork fields serves as a spectacular backdrop to this capacious country home. The detached residence is set within a sleepy Gloucestershire village and, while it benefits from a wealth of modern appliances, the property carries a plethora of striking character features such as deep walls, vaulted ceilings and oak floors.

Location:

Cedar House is set on the northwest edge of The Royal Forest of Dean - an area which offers 24,000 acres of glorious countryside and presents an ideal landscape for outdoor activities such as walking and cycling.
The home is within English Bicknor, a peaceful and beautiful village which includes a reputable Church of England Primary School that consistently attains 'Good' Ofsted ratings. There is also a small Norman church and a village hall which provides a centre for community activities, and, as there is no pub in the village, the hall frequently opens its bar.

The home at a glance:

This stone-clad five-bedroom house is tucked away behind a five-bar gate and the front garden sets a sublime scene; a vibrant variety of shrubs and blooms, a fishpond and a water feature beautify the landscape and peach-coloured roses line the path to the front door.
The reception hall further enhances this excellent first impression as it is spacious and beautifully bright; a window over the staircase lets plenty of natural light cascade into the expanse. To the right, there is a sitting room which boasts a wood burning stove - a staple of country life - framed by an oak mantle which is complemented by a built-in oak TV stand. The dual-aspect room is filled with plenty of sunlight and a set of French doors lead out to the beautiful rear garden. Beyond the sitting room, there is a library which carries an abundance of built-in oak bookcases on three sides of the room. These include display alcoves with lighting.
On the left-hand side of the reception hall, there is a handsome dining room which offers a grand space to stage larger-scale family gatherings, but there is another excellent hosting space - the dining kitchen which is a beautifully bright heart of the home. There is ample space for a dining and lounging area within this zone. The kitchen is fitted with white gloss units with quartz worktops, a granite-topped island, and contains a variety of modern, integrated appliances such as a full-height integrated fridge, three ovens, a wine cooler, an induction hob and a remote-controlled extractor fan. Two sets of French doors lead out to a patio seating area in the gorgeous rear garden which has been landscaped to give the appearance that it is infinite and extends to the surrounding farmland. Also on this level of the property, there is a cloakroom and a utility room.
The staircase in the reception hall leads up to a galleried landing. There are five double bedrooms housed on this level and, of these, the master bedroom is a show-stopping space which carries a vaulted, beamed ceiling, a separate dressing room and an arch-shaped window which showcases the spellbinding surroundings wonderfully. It also contains an attractive en-suite shower room which features a generous dual-headed corner shower, a countertop vanity unit, a WC and a heated towel rail.
The second largest bedroom also includes a vaulted ceiling, an en-suite shower room and a captivating view of the splendid scenery.
The family bathroom is another elegant expanse. It contains a slipper bath with shower attachment, plus a walk-in dual-headed corner shower, a WC, a basin and a heated towel rail.
In terms of parking arrangements, there is a secure, gated driveway plus a detached garage-cum-workshop with light and power.
The rear garden also includes a tool shed, a log store and a wooden cabin, which is dubbed "the studio". This has light and power, is fully insulated and is fitted with double-glazed windows. Presently, this is utilised as a games room but could be adopted into a large garden office, a gym or guest accommodation.
The rear garden is accessible through three sets of gates, all of which can be locked. This includes a patio outside the home - giving an ideal alfresco dining spot - and this has external power points and a water supply. There is another more secret seating space at the far end, next to an impressive mature ash tree which offers an excellent area to soak in the rural vista.
It is also worth noting that there is a wholly private corner of the outdoor space, "the shade garden", which is tucked away behind the studio. This is encircled by a mature hedge and, during the warmer months of the year, this magical spot comes alive with roses. This also has power points - ideal for outdoor lighting - plus a water feature.
