From Kirkby Stephen at mini roundabout head towards Soulby. Follow this road for approximately 2.5 miles before turning left in Soulby towards Great Asby. Continue for approximately 2 miles until you have passed over the Settle to Carlisle Railway line and take the second left up a shared hardcore access trackway known locally as Potts lane which after circa 1800 metres will lead directly onto the Common.
Alternative access points to the common are available, specifically through the village of Crosby Garrett but the Potts Lane route leads directly to the enclosed area.
