Description

Spectacular coastal cottage on Earlsferry Beach.

Description

One of Elie & Earlsferry’s most admired properties, Beach Cottage sits in a stunning beach front location in one of Scotland’s most spectacular and desirable coastal settings, with panoramic views over Elie and Earlsferry beaches, and across the Firth of Forth towards East Lothian. The original cottage was constructed in the early 19th century and was fully renovated and extended by the current owners. The extensive works carried out included a new extension to accommodate a spacious principal bedroom suite, new double glazed windows, wall lined insulation, replumbing, rewiring, and a transformation of the living space. Finishes are to the highest standard with Fired Earth flagstones in the hall and kitchen, and pearl oiled oak flooring in the living area and bedrooms. The slate roof was fully refurbished with Welsh slate and new Velux rooflights in 2022.

The property is south facing, with stunning sea views from both the kitchen breakfast bar and the living room window desk. The kitchen is fitted with a range of appliances including an electric Smeg oven, Siemens induction hob, Bosch dishwasher and freestanding Smeg fridge. The kitchen also incorporates a recessed pantry. The spacious living / dining room sits across the hall from the kitchen and has windows with views to the south and east. It has two shelved alcoves, integrated wiring for a TV above the fireplace, and a log burning stove. The principal bedroom suite is located at the rear of the cottage, with patio doors opening out onto the rear patio which offers a sunny sheltered area. It has an en suite shower room, a dressing area with plumbing for laundry appliances, and plantation shutters. There is a further double bedroom and a single bedroom room which share a family bathroom with freestanding Aston Matthews cast iron painted bath and separate walk-in shower. From the hall, a ladder gives access to the “cubby” loft storage space which has Velux windows offering views to Elie Beach. Additional loft spaces are accessed via a Ramsay ladder.

The beachfront terrace to the front of the house is fully enclosed by a stone wall and gate, and is a wonderful area for outdoor dining overlooking the beach. The grounds of Beach Cottage continue beyond the front terrace, onto a grassed area and down over the dunes to the beach’s high-water line. The rear patio has a path to the side of the house connecting it to the front, and a large garden shed.

Beach Cottage has vehicular and pedestrian right of access from the bottom of Glovers Wynd to the front of the cottage. Whilst the current owners prefer to use the ample on-street parking on Glover’s Wynd and Earlsferry High Street, there is also private parking available in front of the cottage itself.

Location

Beach Cottage is situated in a spectacular and highly sought after setting on Earlsferry beach. The house provides both direct access onto the beach and outstanding panoramic views of Elie Bay from Chapel Green to the lighthouse, and across the Firth of Forth to the Bass Rock.

The connected villages of Elie and Earlsferry are popular holiday destinations due to the unspoilt sandy beaches, accessible golf courses, tennis courts and range of water sports available. Whilst situated by the beach, Beach Cottage is just a short walk from Earlsferry High Street, and ideally positioned for access to Elie Golf Course and the shops, cafés and restaurants of Elie.

Elie and Earlsferry are in the East Neuk of Fife, famed for its picturesque fishing villages and sandy beaches, with Elie boasting one of its finest. Sailing, wind surfing and other water sports are available at Elie Harbour and there are two golf courses, one the acclaimed 18 hole course and a short 9 hole course suitable for beginners. There are also golf practice facilities, several hard tennis courts and a bowling green. Elie Sports Club offers group and individual coaching in golf and tennis during school holidays. Elie is well served by pubs and cafés including the renowned Ship Inn, and the historic 19th Hole tavern and restaurant in Earlsferry.

St Andrews, ‘the home of golf‘ and the setting for one of Britain’s oldest universities, is only 13 miles away. There are traditional links golf courses at nearby Crail, Leven and Lundin Links and new courses at Kingsbarns and St Andrews Bay. St Andrews has an excellent selection of shops, restaurants and services to supplement those available in the village. A new train station in Leven (about 10 miles) is due to open in 2024 with direct trains to Edinburgh.
