Description
The Tour
The apartment has a private entrance off Portobello Road, which opens into a timber-panelled hallway. Stairs ascend to the first floor, where high ceilings and engineered oak flooring begin. Due to the east/west orientation of the building and the unobstructed view at the rear, natural is welcomed in throughout all day.
At the front is a living room with expansive sash windows with deep sills. A marble fire surround above a black granite hearth provides a refined focal point, with shelving and shaker-style cabinetry in the alcoves at either side.
The kitchen is open to the living room, gently separated from it by a marble L-shape countertop. Its cabinetry is finished in a rich green shade, complemented by aged brass pull handles. There are twin Neff ovens next to a tall sash window with green views, and a Neff induction hob opposite.
A guest bedroom at the rear overlooks peaceful neighbouring gardens. Its timber-panelled walls are painted a sage green that matches a built-in desk and open shelving here, making for a peaceful home study.
There are two bedrooms on the second floor, with the main room at the front. Its walls are a subtle taupe colour, with built-in wardrobes painted to match. Two sash windows draw plenty of light into the room. There is an immaculate adjacent en suite, with a walk-in wetroom-style shower and a striking hexagon-shaped sink. The second bedroom is to the rear and also has spacious built-in wardrobes; here, a tall sash window looks over nearby trees.
From the upper landing is the family bathroom, finished in a similar palette to the en suite. Deep green fish scale tiles line the bath panel, with a sink on top of a green marble cabinet. There is also a handy utility cupboard just outside the main bedroom.
Outdoor Space
On top of the building is a rooftop terrace, entered through an electric glass hatch. Laid with decking and bounded by a parapet wall, the space faces Portobello Road. There is plenty of room for lounge seating and a dining set-up surrounded by lilac, jasmine and clematis, which grows up a section of terrace. Views are brilliant, and despite its proximity to the buzz below, it has an astonishingly private feel.
A second terrace is accessed from the second floor, set behind a pair of glazed doors. With views over nearby gardens, it offers a second peaceful spot to relax or entertain.
The Area
Located on the famed Portobello Road, the apartment is well-placed to make the most of the varied delights of the local area. To the north are Wormwood Scrubs and the Grand Union Canal, perfect for summertime walks with pit stops at the bars and restaurants that line its stretch in Little Venice; to the south is Holland Park and, even closer to home, the much-loved spots that have established Notting Hill as a spot for great shopping and even better eating.
Minutes from the house are Oporto Patisserie for excellent pastel de nata, Lisa’s Italian, a cosy and authentic neighbourhood haunt, and Okasan Sushi. Also nearby are three Michelin-starred restaurants: Core by Clare Smyth, Ottolenghi, Taqueria and Chucs. Franklin’s Wine, Sally Clarke Bakery and the Notting Hill Fish and Meat Shop are also close.
Members’ club Soho House has a branch on Portobello, alongside its Electric Diner and Electric Cinema, which has been operational since 1911. Portobello Road Market is one of the most famous street markets in the world, where it is possible to snap up everything from vintage clothes to antique furniture; the green spaces of Holland Park and Kensington Palace Gardens are both a short walk away.
Ladbroke Grove (Hammersmith and City Line) is the nearest Underground station, around a 5-minute walk away. For Central Line connections, Notting Hill Gate Station can be reached in around 20 minutes. The area is also well-served by bus links,
