Description

Glenthorne is a handsome red brick character house under a tiled roof, with a pleasingly symmetrical double fronted design and a characterful porch. The house is situated in a quiet, sought-after setting behind an in-and-out driveway, with mature, attractively landscaped gardens to the rear. The house was built in around 1908 and is therefore early Edwardian, with a characterful appearance and beautifully modernised interiors in keeping with the age of the house. The original staircase and wooden floors and doors, plus a brick fireplace, are complemented by a modern wood-burning stove and a stylish and well-appointed kitchen. The area is wooded and feels rural, with the surrounding trees affording excellent privacy. The gardens are landscaped and there is plenty of private, off-street parking.

Outside

The house is set behind a large, enclosed gravel driveway with two gated entrances and planting around the boundaries. There’s lots of parking and an attached single garage. The rear garden is a great size and features a gravel terrace to the back of the house, a generous lawn bordered by trees and shrubs in raised planters, a separate seating area under a pretty pergola, and a garden shed.

Situation

Cold Ash is an attractive, sizeable village situated about four miles northeast of Newbury. The village has a wide range of facilities including an infant and two primary schools, a pub and a village store/Post Office, with further amenities available in the neighbouring town of Thatcham, where there is a Waitrose supermarket, Sainsbury’s and Tesco smaller supermarkets, a choice of schools, a Post Office and a number of other services. In terms of secondary education Cold Ash is within the highly regarded The Downs School catchment area, while the popular boarding school Downe House is situated to the north of the village. Further schools include St Andrew’s, Elstree, Bradfield College, Brockhurst & Marlston and Pangbourne College. The M4 and M3 can be easily accessed for travel towards London and its airports or the West Country. Mainline trains run from Newbury or Reading into London Paddington whilst there is a regular service from Basingstoke to Waterloo. The area provides opportunities for scenic walks and country pursuits, with excellent riding country available locally.
