There are further facilities at nearby Aldeburgh on the coast and the market town of Saxmundham, which has a Tesco and Waitrose.

Both Aldeburgh and Thorpeness have golf courses and there is excellent schooling at Framlingham. There is also a train station in Saxmundham with links to Ipswich and London Liverpool Street.
