National monument

First floor layout:
A brick staircase with bluestone steps leads to the 19th century front door with fine carvings and wrought iron door grille. Through the vestibule is access to the hall, where the authentic tiles in geometric pattern, the high stucco ceiling and the staircase make for a pleasant reception. To the right of the hall are the study, dining kitchen and toilet and to the left the living room, while at the end of the hall a door leads to the garden.
The living room is extremely attractive, as almost all the original details have remained intact. There are a 3.70m high stucco ceiling with ornaments and mouldings, two natural stone fireplaces (one operational as a fireplace), tall windows, partly with stained glass overhead, interior shutters and an oak herringbone parquet floor. At the rear, two pairs of double doors give access to the veranda and garden. The kitchen is located at the rear and is wonderfully bright due to the tall 6-pane window. The kitchen is furnished with a simple corner kitchen, there is a tall wooden fireplace, there are antique china cabinets and space for a modest dining area. Under the kitchen is a spacious pantry cellar where the central heating boiler also hangs.
At the front is a cozy study with a high stucco ceiling, marble fireplace and parquet floor. The high 3-window window with stained glass overhead, flanked by interior shutters, provides a pleasant atmosphere. This room also lends itself perfectly as a dining, TV, play or music room.

Second floor layout:
The authentic staircase has two landings, where at each landing a sun-facing window provides plenty of light. Upstairs we find a spacious landing, where the wide painted floorboards from 1883 have been preserved intact. Panel doors, of which the house has 21, give access to the three bedrooms, the toilet and the bathroom. All (bedroom) rooms are connected by a connecting door. With the current owner, the two rooms on the street side are used as a second living room and study.
The image-defining bay window in one of the bedrooms with its pointed arch-shaped skylights is not only characteristic of the building but also a dream spot for reading or enjoying a good glass with a view of the Waal. Illustrator Fiep Westendorp lived in this fine spot in her younger years and created several drawings in the bay window. The statue of Jip and Janneke with dog Takkie that stands on the Waalkade was therefore placed so that it is visible from this bay window. In both rooms there is an almost 3.20-meter-high stucco ceiling, a fireplace with a flue and fixed closet space. Because there are no buildings across the street, it is incredibly bright and there is a view of gardens.
The rear bedroom also overlooks gardens and has two fitted wardrobes and a fireplace. The bathroom, although in need of modernization, is wonderfully spacious and equipped with a bathtub, walk-in shower and double sinks.

Layout second floor:
On this full and high living floor there are three (sleeping) rooms and a 2nd bathroom. All rooms offer beautiful views of the surroundings through the new skylights. The bathroom is equipped with a shower and sink. From one of the bedrooms is access to the storage attic under the high roof.

Details:
The mansion could well have been named “Linquenda” (once I have to leave it). Indeed, for the current owner, the three-story property has become too large, so he, as the third owner, will leave it after 49 years of living pleasure.
The property stands in the lee of the cozy center on a quiet street with one-way traffic. Within walking distance is a variety of stores, a theater and several nice restaurants. The NS-station is within walking distance and also elementary school are within reach. The fortified town of Zaltbommel has a decent level of facilities with various schools and sports clubs. The Waalkade is less than 100 meters away and is an excellent starting point for endless walking or cycling through the beautiful surroundings. Behind the property is a secluded romantic garden facing east.
This green oasis of tranquility is arranged with a few terraces, a sleekly designed pond and planting beds with English roses.
According to the State Department, the house is of value “as a good and soundly preserved example of a mansion with ornamentation influenced by the Neo-Renaissance. Once built as housing for the new and wealthy urban elite.”
A comprehensive inspection report of this national monumental mansion was prepared by Monumentenwacht Gelderland, which of course can be viewed upon request. If you are looking for a generous property with allure, atmosphere and authenticity, make an appointment.
