Sellers Insights - We have lived in the Brae for 19 years and have very much enjoyed our time here. We wanted to be within walking distance of High School for our children and chose the house because it was light and airy with a superb view. On a clear day, you can see from Anglesey all the way across to Blackpool. We never meant to stay this long, but we are still here even though our children have now long since flown the nest, produced grandchildren, and moved to opposite ends of the country.
The Brae is very quiet and Meliden is a great village. Being so close to the Prestatyn-Dyserth footpath and cycle path is a great bonus.
When we moved in, the garden was mainly concrete! We are by no means expert gardeners, but we have, over the years, encouraged the garden to soften and have created several different garden areas for BBQ, relaxing, and enjoying the peace and quiet. The lawned area provided space for an above-ground pool and a trampoline when the children were younger but is quieter now. The area by the summerhouse has the best view and comes into its own on Guy Fawkes night and Rhyl Airshow day.
Although the house does not look particularly old, it dates back to the early 1800s and has had quite a history. During the war, it served as officers' quarters and hosted a VE day party and several weddings. It has been a B&B in the past but has served us well as a family house. The main sitting room is big enough for entertaining, and with the wood burner keeping everyone toasty has been the heart of family Christmas gatherings. When we moved in the downstairs was more open plan with an archway from the kitchen to the dining room. We preferred to keep the rooms separate, but I guess that is personal taste, and the arch could be easily reinstated.
Upstairs provides spacious bedrooms, and we had teenagers at one end of the house and a quieter environment at the other end in the master bedroom!
For the last few years, I have been working from home, based in the Garden Office. This has worked really well, providing a comfortable environment in which to concentrate. I like to keep work life and family life separate, and having a ten-yard commute to work is brilliant! I have also sectioned off part of the garage to do a separate small workshop. It would, however, be easy to remove this and leave the double garage full size.
We have loved living in the Brae, and it will be a wrench to leave. We look forward to relocating nearer to our children and grandchildren to start a new chapter in our lives and hope that the new owner will love the house as we have and will build new happy memories.
