Freehold

Description

Quite simply, the best house we've ever seen! Architect-designed and built entirely around the plot's incredible London skyline views - in a leafy and friendly community near Horniman Museum and Gardens - this huge detached house (appropriately named 'Sail House') presents no compromises.

You'll enjoy two entrances (you have the possibility to create a self-contained section within the property), side access, a generous driveway, an integral garage, front and rear gardens, and a house-spanning rear terrace too - which takes full advantage of the sensational vistas (which have to be seen with your own lenses to be fully appreciated!).

The location is a top spot in all senses - you are within easy walking distance of Forest Hill Station (12 minutes) and Honor Oak Park Station (16), and both towns' respective centres. Local schools are excellent too, and include Fairlawn and Horniman primaries. The Dulwich independent schools are a short drive.

A tiered front garden fronts the house. Your main entrance is at ground floor level, with the integral garage resting to your right. You open the main front door into a central hall and your kitchen/breakfast room is directly on your left. Sliding doors (this home is wonderfully rich in generous glazing throughout) open here. Timeless fitted units and integrated appliances impress.

Next up on your right is a handy and windowed downstairs w.c. (and it's here you access the garage). Timber stairs lead up and down to your left.

Double doors are straight ahead - opening into the main event - your enormous reception space, of over 25 feet by over 16 feet. Zone seating and dining areas in here easily. Very large timber-framed glazed sliding doors reveal your unbelievable views (and your wonderful terrace) - providing interest day and night. Watch the fireworks round yours? Oh yes!

A mezzanine floor rests atop about half of this room - a flexible space - currently enjoyed as a luxury office. The first floor also hosts a massive master bedroom, complete with neat en suite shower room.

The lower ground floor delivers three large double bedrooms - two at the rear onto the garden (direct access via wall-spanning sliding doors), and one on the front (which has an en suite, plus sliding doors onto a patio area). You also have a reception/kitchenette (again with sliding doors, bien sur!) and a large bathroom. There are smart modern fittings here and both bath and independent shower. An independent utility room completes the floor.

A central back door opens to the patio area of your garden which is laid to lawn and a low-maintenance affair. You have views from here too - not as spectacular as upstairs but wonderful nonetheless!

A smashing place to call home - this area is noteworthy for its green spaces. You are close to Horniman Gardens, Brenchley Gardens, Peckham Rye Park and Common, Dulwich Park, Sydenham Hill Wood, Devonshire Road Nature Reserve, Camberwell (Victorian) cemeteries and One Tree Hill to name a few!

Zone 3 trains (regular and Overground) are local as we've mentioned. Forest Hill Road is also local for good bus routes.

Forest Hill has a buzzy and friendly town centre, with a good pool/gym (on Dartmouth Road), a large Sainsbury's store, and loads of pleasing independent offerings - including a brilliant free range butcher (The Butchery) and lots of cafes too. Big Cheeks Thai is lovely (by the station) and The Sylvan Post is a cool quirky real ale place - with a respectable menu - occupying an old Post Office.

In Honor Oak, we particularly like Honor Oak Provender (the classy fresh loaves and house-made quiche are our favourites), Two Spoons (for brunch, coffee and such), and Miss Margherita (for yummy pizzas) in a former bank building. Other local delights include Nonna Maria restaurant and Babur.
