Description

Picturesque cottage and successful holiday cabin business in Scotland.

Description

Bridgend is a beautiful pink, three bedroom, detached cottage set in around 1.6 acres of landscaped gardens. Constructed in local stone, some walls 90cm thick under a slate roof. This traditional cottage has been sympathetically modernised by the owners to create a lovely, spacious, characterful, family home set in the Loch Lomond National Park and is surrounded in fantastic scenery. The car park has space for at least five cars.

Entry is via a 200 year old timber door into a half-height tongue and groove panelled dining hall with log burning stove and timber floor. There are two spacious, bright bedrooms upstairs sharing a toilet and shower. There’s a large, useful storage area in the loft off bedroom one.

The third bedroom is at ground level with en-suite shower room and double wardrobe with sliding doors. Off this bedroom is a room presently used as the office to run the cabins but the two areas would work well as a granny annex, it has patio doors onto the gardens and windows on two sides. The lounge has timber flooring, log burner and windows on two sides. The large dining kitchen has timber floor, a window seat, oak worktops, red Aga (oil), induction hob, electric oven, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee maker, microwave, white kitchen units and access to the garden is via south facing 5m wide bi-fold doors with full width (7m) decking. The ground floor bathroom with separate shower, Gerberit loo and basin and underfloor heating. The hall has two cupboards. All windows have been renewed with double glazed sash and case windows, except some roof windows.

The wrap-around landscaped garden has a fantastic mix of shrubs, plants and mature trees, a wildlife pond, a gazebo, a fire pit with stone built seats and garden lighting.

THE HOLIDAY CABINS (5)
Walk 50m to the top of the gently sloping gardens to access the pine forest where five timber cabins are located. These were built in 2018-2019 and have all the necessary planning permissions. The separate car park for 6 cars is accessed via the lower road. Each cabin is approx 20m away from the next and is screened off by a thick plantation of spruce trees to give the guests privacy. The cabins have an outside covered area with a bath, wood-burning stove, lpg twin hob, food prep area, sink and couch. Inside is air heating, double bed, shelving made with branches, the en-suite has a shower, wash hand basin and a Swedish designed composting toilet. Candles, lanterns and remote controlled fairy lights create the ambiance. Mains water is heated by an lpg Morco boiler. Manually operated blinds keep the weather out and offer total privacy to the guests. The laundry (2 washing machines and 2 dryers) is in the old garage (approx. 5mx5m) which we also use as a parts and tool store. There’s a fridge/ freezer we use for ice packs and complimentary Prosecco.

Mains water and mains electricity to the cabins comes via separate supplies from the main house.

We have regular visits to the cabins from badgers, pine martens, hedgehogs, roe deer, red squirrels, tawny owls, nuthatches, jays and lots of other birds which the guests love to see. It’s a big part of the experience.
