Description
Built in approximately 1830, Peelwalls House is a Grade B listed mansion house lying to the southwest of the village of Ayton in The Scottish Borders. It is predominately constructed from sandstone beneath a slate roof with Doric columns flanking the entrance, and bay windows in main reception rooms.
Although it has been more recently converted for use as a residential nursing home, the house still retains numerous original features such as sash and case windows, decorative cornicing in the principal reception rooms, an original main staircase naturally lit by a wonderful cupola, and several period fireplaces. A more recent flat roof extension was added to provide additional accommodation for the elderly.
Whilst the house is currently converted to have about 20 bedrooms, the new extension and stud walls in the main house could be removed to reinstate the original home. Due to the size of the house, it could be converted into a boutique hotel, a substantial private residential home, or possibly converted into apartments. These are all subject to the appropriate planning permissions being granted.
Coach House
To the northwest of Peelwalls House is a former coach house which is currently used for storage. It is a substantial stone building constructed from stone beneath a slate roof. It may be possible to convert this building into additional residential accommodation, subject to the appropriate planning permissions.
Walled Garden
To the northwest of the house is a Grade C(s) listed walled garden, which was built in the same era as the principal house. It is spacious with ample room to provide a wonderful kitchen garden or landscaped into a formal garden. There is a summer house at the north end of the garden.
