Full description:
The house is quite unique in that it is still essentially as it was when it was extended in 1706. The original spiral staircase which goes from the ground floor to the large attics, is a really elegant piece of joinery. A single minor modification to the house involved moving a wall and thus leaving space for a first floor bathroom. This modification was achieved by re-using the original doors from 1706 and the rest of the doors, with rather quaint hinges, are in fact still those of 1706.
The back of the house was a small cottage dating from the early 1600s. The main part was added in 1706. In 1835, An Ale House , called the Spotted Pig, was added. It was bought by the Arts and Craft Architect Sir Charles Nicholson in 1925, being a private household ever since. The present owners and their predecessors have been careful to preserve its character and features.
