Vendor Interview
We had admired this house for years and discussed between ourselves that if it ever came up for sale and we were lucky enough to be in a position to try and buy it then that is what we would do. Steve explained. Seven years ago the property came on the market and we did not hesitate to act. The house dates from 1790 and is part of a small group of similar houses from the same period and in similar style. They are all Grade II Listed and are part of a Conservation Area. We have a good friendship network amongst all the people who live here. It is a close knit community and we regularly hold gatherings in our gardens in the summer. The houses are very distinctive with many fine period features including cornices and fireplaces, we even have a small fireplace in our family bathroom which I expect a servant would have kept going to keep the lady of the house warm many years ago. The period features are obvious from the street, adds Sue. With the pillars on either side of the driveway which leads up to the front door. There is parking here for five cars, so we have plenty of room when visitors come to stay. The house is spacious with bedrooms on two floors, we use one as a dressing room and one as a gym, and from the top floor we have views towards London. We have carried out many improvements since we have been here, with new hand built kitchen and dressers to match in the dining room, as well as new flooring, but all in keeping with the period of the property. One talking point among our friends is the well in the floor of the kitchen, which is covered in glass and a metal grill and we keep it lit to make most of the feature. Our favourite space is the drawing room with its arched windows and triple aspect, and it is here where we tend to entertain our friends. There are French doors which lead from the drawing room into the conservatory and out into the landscaped garden with steps up to a seated area where we can also enjoy the outdoor space with our friends in the warmer weather. Steve says, Beyond the house there are parks within five minutes in three different directions including the 140-acre Beddington Park. This has been a wonderful place to live and the house and area has certainly lived up to all our expectations. Steve and Sue
