Full descriptionSet in the centre of its 1.5 acres (stms) of grounds and backing onto woodland which has been classified as an' Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty', Ashmore House was built in 1926 and today offers a superb family lifestyle with six bedrooms, six reception rooms, an outdoor swimming pool, stable block, hay barn and paddock.
Walking through the woods, watching the wildlife or taking the horses out from the stables and heading off for a ride, the owners of Ashmore House have made the most of every moment at their country home.
They came across the six-bedroom house, which overlooks an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has an outdoor heated swimming pool, 13 years ago - and since then have transformed it into their perfect abode.
It was in such a beautiful setting and had a really rural feel to it despite being close to Gerrards Cross and having easy access to London, said the owner.
We decided we wanted to update and extend it but also to retain as much of its character as possible.
The property dates back to 1926 and is located in Jordans, which has strong historical links to the Quaker movement. The new owners carried out a substantial amount of work on the red brick house, increasing its size to create generous, light spaces.
We wanted to add more family space but at the same time for any work we did to be in character with the original sections of the house. I think we did manage to achieve that, she said.
Period features still present today include intricate cornicing and an ornate fireplace in the dining room.
It is an open fire that we light at Christmas, which is just lovely, she said. In fact, this is a real 'Christmas house,' we always have guests to stay at that time of year and put up two large trees, which look fantastic.
The room at the front of the house is used as the main drawing room. Here the owners relax and watch television or listen to the radio. This is a quiet space, which is filled with light, and the perfect place to sit and read, she added.
The kitchen is also very nice. It is a very modern and sunny room that looks out on to the woods, she said.
The master bedroom also commands magnificent views. From here the owners often see birds and even the occasional deer or badger.
This is a very long room with a walk-through dressing room and en suite bathroom, she added.
Leisure and Pleasure
With an outdoor swimming pool, as well as stables, Ashmore House is the perfect place to enjoy leisure time. The owners relax around the pool with friends during the summer months and walk in the woods all year round.
It is perfect for anyone who likes hacking or spending time walking their dogs, she said. It is also an ideal place to work from. There is an area that can be used as an office. It is perfect as it has its own entrance.
The current owners have spent a magical time at their woodland home, which is in a superb location for accessing other places in the country.
Now, however, they have decided it is time to downsize.
We really need something smaller now but it has been a lovely place to live, she said. It is so beautiful here. This is a wonderful family home, which is perfect for anyone looking to live in a beautiful, rural setting.
From the electric gates and sweeping drive approach you can enjoy views of the stables and surrounding woodlands, evoking thoughts of equestrian pursuits and outdoor living.
The welcoming entrance hall beckons you within to enjoy the delights of the fine accommodation that awaits. First you enter the impressive and spacious drawing room, a double aspect room that is frequently bathed in sunlight. Cleverly it connects to the generously proportioned dining room creating an easy flow that is ideal for grand dinner parties and family Christmas celebrations.
The ground floor accommodation also offers peace and tranquillity within the reading room and snug or a cosy gathering in the family room around the fireplace.
The kitchen/breakfast room has an ample dining area that is ideal for breakfasts and informal gatherings or for overseeing the children's high teas and all important homework assignments, while the study provides the perfect place to work and with independent access through a rear doorway it does not disturb the peace and tranquillity of the home beyond.
The triple garage with its first floor games room provides flexible space that can be used for a host of possibilities, perhaps as a hobby room or a fabulous teenagers 'hangout'. Alongside are the Stables, tack room and hay barn presently the home for two ponies.
To the first floor there are six bedrooms, a family bathroom and an en-suite to the master which also benefits from its own walk in dressing room. The second largest bedroom offers useful attic space with an independent staircase. Currently used as a 'Gentlemen's Dressing Room' it could provide a number of uses for the future occupants.
Setting the scene
The parkland gardens at Ashmore House are set against the beautiful background of the ancient woodland, which the owners have license to access.
Magnificent, mature trees and shrubs bring natural beauty to the secluded setting and it is quite common to witness many types of local wildlife wandering through the gardens.
I did not want to have a formal garden here. It was important to me that it remained natural because of the wonderful woodland, said the owner.
We spend as much time as we can outside, swimming in the pool in summer or having barbeques and family parties.
