The Property A Grade 2 listed building of exceptional merit. Superbly presented and nothing maintained.
Sat overlooking the pretty hamlet of Starbotton this superb 6 bed property has the unusual bonus of circa 15 acres of land. Currently used as a private home with B & B in a 3 double bed (ensuite) format, with a turnover of circa £30,000+ if required.
Cosmetically upgraded to a high standard in 2005/6 by the current owners who have a great flare for interior design and quality finishes. The previous owners had the property re-wired and the roof turned and checked over in circa 2001 This large family home is sure to impress.
. Originally a working farm the house was owned by the Rathmell family from its beginnings until acquired by the current owners in 2005. Over the years it has changed from humble farmhouse to elegant family home with several early Georgian additions. Various colourful characters have occupied Hilltop over the years, including Clement Roebuck a well known Huddersfield businessman who collected over 140 paintings, many of which featured Hilltop and the surrounding area and were affectionately known as the Roebuck collection. The paintings were bequeathed to the town of Skipton on his death in 1987. Hilltop is perfectly placed for walking right from the door! Footpaths to Buckden Pike and The Dales Way are footsteps away! Beautiful views surround the house which overlooks the village.
Starbotton and the Dales A small hamlet of around 70 dwellings. Starbotton has quite a number of interesting features, including a Quaker burial ground and several houses steeped in history. The name Starbotton was probably derived from 'Stauerboten' from the 12th century, meaning 'the place where stakes were got.' People have lived in this part of the dale since the Iron Age and the area has many pack horse trails from the time when great monasteries like Jervaulx and Fountains Abbey traded goods across the Dales.
The village pub The Fox and Hounds is warm and welcoming and offers good English fayre. Sit inside by the fire or in summer enjoy the pretty terrace area outside. There is a regular bus service providing links to the towns of Skipton and Ilkley, hop on just outside the pub! It passes through Kettlewell and on to Grassington before heading down the dale.
