The Story
It is always a joy to entertain in the large, open-plan living area at Lewis House.
This is where the current owners regularly hold Indian or Chinese takeaway nights for friends.
We have a large fridge-freezer with a special drinks cooler section, which is always fully stocked with wine and Champagne, said the owner. We love entertaining and this is a fantastic house for doing that.
The four-bedroom, three-storey property has stunning views at the rear over a beautiful valley and the locally-named Giant's Bite landscape.
We bought the land from a builder and designed the house ourselves, they said.
Edwardsville is an ideal place to live as we can be in the hustle and bustle of Cardiff or the Brecon Beacons National Park in just half an hour.
GRAND DESIGNS
The couple moved into the house just before Christmas in 2003.
My husband was instrumental in its design, she said. When it was finished, the builder liked it so much he built another one for himself next door.
The accommodation is arranged over three floors, with the open plan kitchen and living space on the ground floor, along with a separate drawing room, which opens through to a conservatory.
Originally, we had a children's play room built next to the kitchen, but after we had lived here for a while we decided to knock the play room through to create a larger living area, she explained.
KITCHEN PEOPLE
The fabulous kitchen features walnut cabinets with Corian work surfaces, porcelain tiling on the floor and a large work island.
We always congregate in the kitchen. It has been fitted with a multi-media system and we have installed a large, plasma, smart television. My friends love coming here because they feel so comfortable.
In the summer, the owners like to open the bi-folding doors to the fossil stone terrace and decking area, where they have installed a hot tub.
When the weather is warm we can bring the outside in, they said. There is nothing behind the house except the stunning views across the valley.
We can see the Giant's Bite, which literally looks like a giant has taken a bite out of the landscape.
ON CUE
The formal drawing room and the conservatory are also used for entertaining.
There is a large snooker table in the conservatory and a fridge.
I call it the boys' room because whenever we have friends over the men always seem to congregate in that room! she laughed.
Upstairs, there are three generous bedrooms, including the master bedroom, which has its own en-suite bathroom and dressing room.
We converted the loft space above the kitchen to create my daughter's bedroom with its own dressing room too.
On the top floor, the open-plan space is furnished with fitted wardrobes and a large bed as well as a sofa and there is another bathroom.
The top floor is really our guest bedroom, but it is a versatile space and my son has his drum kit up there too. The kids like to use it as a space to hang out in.
The combined indoor and outdoor spaces have provided the owners with the perfect party home: Apart from having friends over a lot, we have had some big parties here too. For my dad's 65th birthday party, we had 85 people here and I had a band on the decking playing all sorts of tunes.
They added: We absolutely love this house and have had some fantastic times here.
ACCOMMODATION
GROUND FLOOR
Accessing this delightful home via the covered front entrance you will find yourself in a well proportioned reception hall, which is light and airy with a tiled floor, under-floor heating and contemporary patterned wall paper. Etched glazed doors open into the drawing room, cloakroom and the kitchen/family/dining room. The cloakroom has been refurbished by the current owner and is fitted with a Porcelanosa suite and is finished with glossy tiling with attractive mosaic detailing. The drawing room is of a good size and boasts a feature gas fire as its focal point, along with access to the impressive conservatory. A great space for relaxation, the delightful conservatory has a vaulted ceiling with integral spotlights, air conditioning and wonderful natural stone tiled flooring which continues through to the terrace.
Returning to the hall, the tiled flooring continues through to the stunning open plan kitchen/family/dining room. The dining room is a lovely place for entertaining and opens into the Porcelanosa kitchen, which is complete with an array of Kuppersbusch appliances including a dual drawer dishwasher, double electric oven, extractor hood and a fantastic induction hob with wok plate. Corian work surfaces adorn the kitchen and breakfast bar area, within which there is a built in sink with an integral drainer. The kitchen is also served by a fully fitted utility room which has modern cabinets throughout and space for the usual white goods. The sitting room completes the open plan area and has a number of contemporary features including two Bisque radiators, a feature stone tiled wall, under-floor heating and a glazed wall of bi-folding doors which open onto the terrace - perfect for entertaining and al fresco dining.
FIRST FLOOR
The spacious landing offers a large airing cupboard, along with four bedrooms that are waiting to be explored. The opulent master bedroom has a luxurious en-suite, which has been recently refurbished with a Porcelanosa WC and 'his and hers' oval bowls, which have been set on a glass mosaic tiled plinth. The fourth bedroom has been incorporated into the master bedroom in order to generate a dressing room, but this could easily be reinstated as a bedroom as the original door still leads to the landing. Moving on, the second bedroom has double aspect roof lights, floor mounted spotlights and its own dressing area or study, an ideal space for a children's bedroom. Completing this floor is the family bathroom which includes a jacuzzi bath and is finished with glossy tiling.
SECOND FLOOR
Rising to the second floor you will find a vast and flexible space with built in wardrobes, a matching dresser and a stunning wet room with a Porcelanosa suite.
SETTING THE SCENE
The entrance to Lewis House is via impressive wrought iron electric gates which lead onto a brick paved driveway that provides parking for at least four cars. The drive leads to a detached double garage, adjacent to which is a private courtyard. There is also a pedestrian gate at the front of the property, which features a small garden and a path which runs right around the house. The rear garden has a sunny aspect and has been landscaped to provide both a lawned play area for children and a fantastic entertaining area. The large terrace is perfect for alfresco dining and is accessed from both the conservatory and the bi-folding doors from the sitting room.
From here, timber steps with inset spot lighting and glazed balustrade, lead to a raised timber deck which houses a hot tub and space for table and chairs. The garden is secure for children with tall timber fencing.
We can access wonderful countryside from the house including the Taff Trail, which takes you through the valley. We like to walk our dogs there, she said.
