Farmhouse features “The property has been renovated to a very high standard,” explains the owner with obvious understatement. The original part of the house has traditional features at every turn, from magnificent oak beams, to beautiful flagstones and amazing herringbone brick and oak floors. All materials for this project were not only top quality, but also locally sourced, and the eye-catching barn extension provides a fitting testimony to local expertise: “The oak frame used in the extension was locally sourced,” explains the owner. “The oak beams were customised by hand to fit and the kitchen was handmade by a local joiner.” With no expense spared in this house, style is the watchword, with modern luxury in the crisp white bathroom and classic touches thanks to stripped floorboards and cosy fireplaces and farmhouse features.
Extension perfection Although the original farmhouse provides a lot of space and wonderful rooms, it is the magnificent extension at the rear of Candlet Farm that will take your breath away. Thoughtfully linked to the main farmhouse and home to a vaulted kitchen and dining room plus mezzanine above, this room provides a great place for entertaining. “I love the extension,” says the owner, adding: “We have had some of the most fantastic parties here – so much atmosphere and the acoustics are perfect. “Music and dancing on the magnificent oak floor and everyone feels right at home.” If dancing is not your thing, then perhaps a stroll in the five acres of landscaped gardens and paddocks, or a dip in the fantastic outdoor pool could take your fancy? There is so much on offer at Candlet Farm that boredom is not an option. “In summer we like to sit in the summer house and read,” says the owner, “and in winter we spend most of our time in the wonderful extension with the Aga.” Visiting guests can also enjoy their own private accommodation thanks to a selfcontained cottage in the grounds that is also perfect as family accommodation. Other buildings include three barns, one of which is already converted to an office that is perfect for working from home.
DIRECTIONS Proceed along the A14 towards Felixstowe and take the turning signed to Trimley villages. At the roundabout take the turning for Trimley St Mary to the left. Proceed down this road for about 2-3 km, passing the school on the left turning into Gulpher Road. Just passed the Golf Driving Range and the Horseriding Stables, turn left and Candlet Farm will be found at the end of this road.
Vendor Statement “We consider ourselves exceptionally lucky because it is rare to find property so near to Felixstowe with five acres of land,” says the owner, pointing out that this is “a beautiful piece of unspoilt countryside, so secluded and nestling at the end of a private road forming a tranquil oasis.” With only a couple of miles to the centre of town and a few more to the coast, the location is superb. The land looks out onto an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the countryside rolls on towards Kings Fleet, a peaceful stream that leads from the River Deben. In fact, the owner is very sad to be selling his beloved home, into which so much work has been invested, but he feels it is time to move on and let the house be lived in by a young family. “What a perfect place for a family to grow and enjoy,” but he considers Candlet Farm his “oasis – so beautiful in this countryside – it has everything Ireland has except the mountains. This has been a wonderful home”.
