The gardens at the Courtland Drive house are the pride and joy of its owners Ian and Sylvia Murray.
For the past 14 years, the couple have opened their house and gardens to the public for an annual fundraising event.
Every year I hold a coffee morning to raise money for cancer charities, said Sylvia.
We have had up to 100 people here and I sell a lot of my potted plants to raise funds.
The attractive, four-bedroom, detached home is in a much sought-after area of Chigwell, and benefits from splendid views of open fields to the front.
I don't think there is anywhere so close to London and just a few minutes' walk from Chigwell Station that has views like this, she said.

GEORGIAN STYLE

The couple bought the house 34 years ago and its location was one of the main motivations for buying the property.
The front windows of the substantial house overlook the farmers' fields and a little brook that runs alongside.
When I open my bedroom curtains in the morning the sun streams in and there are wonderful views across the fields, she said. It is just gorgeous.
The house was built in 1950 and a large extension to the property was added by the previous owners, who also gave it a period-looking façade.
It has Georgian style and is a very attractive house while at the same time has all modern conveniences, said Sylvia.
There is an original leaded light window on the landing, which has an Art Deco style.

ENTERTAINING AT HOME

The spacious house boasts a large drawing room, with French windows opening to the terrace at the rear of the house. This room is dual aspect, with a window to the front as well, overlooking the fields opposite - and this is where the couple like to sit and relax at the end of a busy day.
There is also a separate dining room and a large reception hall.
The entrance hall is quite a large space so we have put a sofa there, she said. When we have had parties people have congregated there with their drinks.
The couple have ensured the house has a warm and welcoming feel and over the years have decorated a number of times.
It is primarily a family home as it is where my three children have all grown up, said Sylvia. My oldest was just two when we moved here.
And she added: We have aimed to give the house a warm feel.

CAPITAL TIMES

The fabulous location of the house has been a great benefit to the owners, who only have to walk to the end of the street to find shops and amenities.
Chigwell Station takes about seven minutes to walk to from here and we can be in central London in about 45 minutes, she said.
In fact, we go in to the city a lot to take advantage of cultural events. Only the other evening we were at a concert at the Royal Festival Hall. We love the fact we are so close.
However, now that the couple's three children have grown up, and Ian has retired, they feel it is time to find something smaller.
We want to stay in the area because we like it so much, said Sylvia.
I am sure we will always think of this house with great affection as it has been a part of our lives for so long.


ACCOMMODATION
Ground Floor

Upon entering this illustrious property, you will discover a grand hallway which has an unusually spacious feel to it. To your left is a formal dining room which boasts glorious views of the fields opposite the property which makes it a warm and welcoming place for entertaining. The couple have created their own little oasis in the garden in the shape of a large pond which is bulging with fish and features an ornamental waterfall.
We have put decking all around the pond and that is where we have placed our seating. If we have people over in the summer it is where we like to sit and chat, and watch the fish.

Chigwell is a vibrant little town in Essex, located close to Loughton and Epping. It has a small shopping centre known as Brook parade, where small boutique shops can be found along with a deli and bakers and some other good convenience shops. There are many good restaurants and pubs to venture out to in Chigwell, Sheesh, the Blue bell and the King William to name a few, and with many other colourful and high line living places only a stones throw away the house is located perfectly.
Chigwell school a public school is located at the top of the High road and is renowned for being one of the best schools in Essex and the country, there is also Chigwell Primary School for the younger child and this is also a well reported school.


DIRECTIONS
From Chigwell Central line station, proceed down the high road towards the King William pub, passing brook parade shops, pass the pub and take the first right turning, this is Courtland Drive. The property is 200 yards down on the left hand side.
